Mr. Beggar has 67 Land skill. Reading maps is under Land skill, isn't it?

Or may be Land is only used for pilots and when one trips over and falls. [:D]

I can atribute this case to mismatching orders.

Final tally of the scenario. I lost quite a lot of planes doe to Ops. Some of them were due to combat, but many were due to a lack of Air Support and not micromanaging them enough.

The bufaloes have a SR 3 and they did fly Escort for many days sometimes.

Now a new scenario is started.

Well an old one. I will play Sen 19 from Jap side. The description of the scenario is the same and can be found on 1th page of this AAR.

This is the turn before I gave the order to Chiang Mai. I tested giving them the order and they worked well. I couldn't reproduce the problem of walking the "other way".

And this is the next turn. Here the 4 Units at the baze east of Pegu show Destination Chiang mai,
But if I play for 11 days they end up in Sittang Bridge and later end their movement in Moulmein.

I probably did some weird sequence of commands in the origan playtrough that ended up with this behaviour.

Aircrft planning.

Apart from the fighters shown below I have:
4 Sentais of Sallies right now and one more comes in 26 days.
1 Sentai of Anns, that can upgrade to Lillies, but I will probably just use them as trainers.

Note: In my Allied side game the AI have kept the Sallies on Naval attack the whole time, so they never showed up :(

Moulmein had 3 weak units that got shocked by a single regiment and fled.

Now I will start the crossing with 4 Inf regiments and an ART unit from 55th.
By the way, someone replaced the last inf regiment in 55th with a Cavalry regiment that is 5 times weaker even without accounting for the firepower loss.

My Oscar have seen only CAP duty above Rahaeng and Moulmein and take a pounding.

Feb 12, 1942 Crossing into Sittang Bridge.

I have tried to bomb Sittang bridge at D day.
Setup was:

1. 2 Sentai of Sallies to night bomb Rangoon international Airport
2. 30 Oscar Ib-s to sweep Bassein and draw leaky CAP.
3. 3 detachments of Nates (42 total) with trainees and some 5-6 60XP pilots to provide Escort for
4. 3 Sentais of Sallies to bomb Sittang Bridge

But the Sallies refused to fly.

Here is the 1st Delibarate Attack at Sittang.

This time the Sallies flew. [:)]

Note: The TOE of the INF Regiments is inflated with Support squads. Only 1 of them had extra combat squads.

I have noticed that units in Rest/Training do not recover, or very slowly disabled squads.

Is that the way it works?

I have the latest Official patch .24 I think.

I had one regiment with around (80) 20 squads after the initial shock.
I then pulled it to Moulmein where it recovered to around (50) 50 and stayed there for days.
Then I pushed it for the above DA where it didn't loose much, but actually recovered to around (20) 80.

Numbers are not exact

The disablements seem to get fixed really fast when the unit has high disruption and fatigue.

So in that case I had a a lot of disablements that would heal really slow, but after a second battle, they healed really fast.

In my case:
1. I had a INF regiment participate in attack and had high disablements. This hex is a lvl 1 base that I don't hold.
2. I pulled it out (Reserve mode) to nearby Moulmein which is a level 4 or 5 bas (airfield 4 and port 0-1).
3. I put it to Rest.

I noticed that a lot of disablements were cured during 1., but at Moulmein the rate dropped. I have a Command HQ and a Divisional HQ at Moulmein, so they are well supplied and supported.

Units at Moulmein have ~ 0-8 Fatague and Disruption, while units at Sittang have ~ 8-26 when sitting at Defend.

When I left units on Combat Mode (without any actual combat) in the Malaria zone their fatigue rose to between 28 and 32 and remained there. So I assume that about that much of the fatigue your units suffer is attributable to Malaria (and maybe engineers working), and the rest is from marching or combat operations (including being bombed or shelled).
Combat disablements seem to be caused by losses of men that make the squad ineffective (but not yet wiped out), heavy fatigue and the random confusion of combat. After combat, the general confusion gets cleared up in a turn or two so those disabled squads recover quickly.
Another couple of days rest and fatigue falls fairly quickly, then more slowly as it nears the malaria threshold for the hex.

Disablements start to reduce some more as the WIA troops start recovering and rejoining their squads and as replacements for KIA arrive. The latter depends on base size and supply level - i.e. the unit gets replacements as the wave of supply reaches the base. So a forward base without continuous road or rail links in the supply chain will have plateaus where nothing is happening in recovery terms.

BTW, at level 9 development (Port + Airfield) the base overcomes malarial effects and units can be in combat mode with only 1-4 fatigue points.
In cold zones, some of the same effects apply during winter months to reflect frostbite casualties and working in bulky clothing.

Ultimatelly I don't know what is reasonable rate of fixing disabled squads.

Anyway I am finally making progress at Sittang Bridge.

The difference is I got the two Ind Eng Regiments to join in. In this scen they both have 32 combat squads on top of their TOE.

Another Eng Rgm is at Moulmein recovering and 1 more is enroute.

I have put them on training, but forgot to pull them to Bangkok.

My cavalry regiment is down to a support unit.

The two Ind Engineers are pretty banged up so I will send them back.

My old hard drive had an almost complete failure last year. "Almost complete" meaning that windows fails to start but I can still access files in the hard drive.

Eventually I will accidentally figure out how to reinstall the game on my new Ubuntu and continue this.

It is on my "eventually-some-day" list. Highest priority.[8D]

You have several options that I can think of right away and I am sure that others can think of more and possibly better ones.

1. Consider a Virtual Machine application running Windows on your Linux machine.
2. Get a Windows emulator software program on your Linux machine to run your Windows programs.
3. Install Windows on your Linux machine and use a dual boot.
4. Get a new hard drive for your older machine and if you can get the Windows key code from your old one, then reinstall Windows.
5. Get a "new" older machine from someone/somewhere that no longer needs it and have Windows installed just to run the Windows programs that you still want to use. If you get one from a pawn shop, get all of the key codes for all of the programs on the hard drive and then wipe the system, it is probably infected with viruses, trojans, worms, and the like.


The older hard drive failing means that all of it will eventually fail and/or become unreadable.

Thanks for the tips.

I misspoke about the new Ubuntu, I only changed the drive and installed. I tend to replace broken parts and keep machines until they fail completely.

I tried simply installing with wine, but the game crashes. Also tried the Play on Linux from Lowpe's thread in the Tech forum.

Then I bought XCOM 2 with Long War mod and haven't finished it yet. [8D]

I will eventually go back to WITPAE and figure out how to run it again.

You know it was frustrating to see you take Sittang Bridge as the Japanese. I played as Japanese and got crushed at Sittang Bridge. [&o] I must be doing something wrong. Nevertheless I am still reloading my saves to try again. Taking it real slow, like 3-4 turns per day while reading everything I can lay my hands on the campaign. This is a game you learn by repeatedly retracing your steps to see how the things work. [:D]
