By all accounts the only things that have changed are fewer USAF personal, fewer aircraft, run down infrastructure and fewer NATO exercises and rotations.

57th Ftr Sqn was deactivated in 95 and the base was shut down in 2006 but plans for reactivating started in 2015 and there are a few USAF people there now I believe, but no assigned aircraft.

This bid for renovation is an indicator of changes to come I think. https://icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/politics_and_society/2019/06/24/us_military_to_invest_billions_of_isk_in_keflavik/

Your book kept me up until 2 am last night. As I said, I like to read very slow and take in all of the majesty of your words, but I have arrived at the point where the fighting has begun. I can't stop reading. I want to thoroughly enjoy, but I can't just stop because the book is too good. I find myself envisioning the battles that you are describing through the use of CMANO. Having played your scenarios pertaining to this topic, it brings the words to life.

Bart, I'm not getting much sleep and it's all your fault! <lol>

Doug

You can listen to the interview I did on a local radio station here: County 99.3, thanks to Lynn Pickering for doing the interview.

Doug, glad you're enjoying the book! That's exactly the reaction we were shooting for when writing. Be sure to leave us a good review on Amazon/Goodreads when you finish to help us get the word out.

Hay guys, Joel is traveling again but busy as always - in addition to popping home to help his wife deliver a child he's done an interview with a newspaper in Colorado Springs.

You can read all about it here

I have a long commute and will love to have the audio book available.
Already have the book though from day 1 lol, need glasses to read so slow going lol.

Great work guys! Can't wait for the next one.

Gunner98 -> RE: RE:Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO (9/4/2019 4:43:49 PM)

We plan for the audiobook by Christmas this year. For book 2 there will likely (based on sales of book 1 audiobook) be an audiobook as well but probably about 6 months after the release of the print & ebooks.

Thanks for you support.

magi -> RE: New Scenario up for testing (9/7/2019 1:33:01 AM)

Your northern fury webpage is just remarkable.... an outstanding of work.... good for you ......

Coiler12 -> RE: New Scenario up for testing (9/7/2019 11:27:18 AM)

Since you're doing a big revamp of the USSR section, I feel obligated to make one small quibble. I'd go with the "Heavy OPFOR" manuals over the older FM 100-2s as a go-to reference because:

1: The FM 100-2's, though not the worst, are still older and based off less complete data than the post-glasnost, juuuuust after the fall of the USSR Heavy OPFOR.
2: The Heavy OPFOR is meant to be a stand-in for a more idealized, full-strength USSR/Russia heading into the early/mid 1990s. What is the USSR in Northern Fury? [:'(]

Gunner98 -> RE: New Scenario up for testing (9/7/2019 2:20:53 PM)

Thanks for the tip - quite familiar with Heavy OPFOR but you're correct that I have been basing most of my stuff on FM-100-2.

For most of the higher level stuff I've been going here: http://www.ww2.dk/new/newindex.htm and cross referencing with http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/graveyard/26912082/images/1377961541351.pdf and https://coldwargamer.blogspot.com/2013/12/orbat-soviet-force-organisation-against.html

To be honest, I haven't paid that much attention to anything lower than Div except where it gets into specialties like Airborne and Naval Infantry. But now with CMO on the horizon I had better rethink that a bit...

Heavy OPFOR might just be the trick... thanks.

I'm glad I was able to make it, and meet the person behind all those great scenarios. They've provided literally hundreds of hours of challenging entertainment, and then a fine book too. Thanks again!

This is great news, I tried to buy it but was told Santa has it and will leave it under the tree [8D]
Are there any other books like this one?

Merry Christmas to all

Oh excellent!

I've just started reading #1 and I'm loving it. The hardback should arrive in 1-2 months, so I also bought the ebook as I'm impatient!

redboot -> RE: Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO scenarios (1/7/2020 10:25:32 AM)

Wondering if there is an update on the status of the audiobook. I’m looking forward to it’s release.

Gunner98 -> RE: Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO scenarios (1/7/2020 12:32:50 PM)

Audiobook Update - it's coming![;)]

While it hasn't been as quick as we would like, progress is good. Our voice actor Arthur Morton is doing an excellent job, it's tougher than any of us thought with so many characters and accents, but it is sounding great.

We are about 1/3rd of the way through our second round of reviews, the book is completely recorded (21 hours & ~40 min) and our fist round review was quite good. I think we are probably looking at about another 3-4 weeks of work and then through the Audible QA process which I understand can take several weeks as well.

So I cannot give you a date - the last couple of targets have come and gone so I don't want to put another one out there. It will be soon however.

Thanks for your patience and interest, this is completely new for both Joel and I but we are muddling through it as best we can.

A new scenario up for testing: Northern Fury 26 Land of Fire & Ice!

Followers of book news may note a coincidence in the names.

The scenario is here ready for download and testing: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4755770

Brambo -> RE: Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO scenarios (2/2/2020 10:23:54 AM)

Just finished your book, which my wife bought me for Christmas. Wow, amazing, fantastic read. I was really impressed how the story took you from location to location as the story unfolded and put you in the shoes of the individuals involved. I spent 36 years in the Royal Air Force and 12 years of that was spent in Germany preparing for the Cold War to unleash, which thankfully it didn't. Your book would make an awesome TV series, much better than a film as with a film an awful lot of the action would have to be left out. I look forward to your next release and wish you both well.

Take care
Trev

Gunner98 -> RE: Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO scenarios (2/2/2020 10:47:17 AM)

Thank you for your kind words.

If you spent any time in the Bruggen/Wildenrath area or 2 ATAF, we may have driven the same paths. I was at JHQ Rheindahlen in ARRC HQ just before it moved to the UK.

Would appreciate if you could put your thoughts in an Amazon review.

Take care - back to working on book 2.

Bart

Brambo -> RE: Northern Fury - Check out the book based on CMANO scenarios (2/5/2020 10:39:56 AM)

Hi Bart

I did two tours at Laarbruch and one tour a Bruggen so we could well of crossed paths, its a small world. My wife worked for NATO Cars and me and the guys used to drive all those new cars to Rheindahlen for the car shows. I will certainly leave a review at Amazon.

Take care and keep up the great work.

Trev

A new blog is up on our site, it forms a companion piece to Mediterranean Fury #1 'The Road to Byzantium' where you play the Soviets in a bid to seize the entrance to the Bosporus. http://northernfury.us/blog/post24/

New scenario loaded for testing: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4769153

Northern Fury 40 ‘Tongs’
16 March, 1994

Commander STRIKFLTLANT has set in motion a series of attacks designed to set up the conditions for upcoming amphibious operations in central Norway – Operation Thor’s Lightning. This is one of those actions.

This scenario is playable by NATO:

You are commanding TF 20.1 centered on a powerful two carrier Battle Group: Theodor Roosevelt and Enterprise. Your task in the final element of Operation Thor’s Lightning is to interdict the ground line of communications and C2 of the Soviet land forces in Norway. In the overall plan – You are the ‘Tongs’, and have 24 hours to conduct precision strikes in the Narvik area.

This is actually the 4th and last scenario depicting Operation Thor’s Lightning: Charge of the Light Brigade, Hammer and Anvil precede this attack by a two carrier task group. You've got some decisions to make - day or night, sweep or jab, close or stand-off. Have fun - oh and the Soviet's aren't quite dead yet...
