R0blake -> [Fixed] Flank array sonar question. (v1.14 B998.7) (5/4/2018 5:19:42 PM)

Are Flank array sonar's simulated in Command V1.14 Build 998.8 DB 473?

If we take the S 119 Astute class submarine as an example.

It has the following sonar sensors:

Type 2065 [Type 2076 Suite] TASS, Passive-Only Towed Array Sonar System. Max Range 100nm

Type 2072 [Type 2076 Suite] Hull Sonar, Passive-Only Ranging Flank Array Search & Track. Max Range 70nm

Type 2079 [Type 2076 Suite] Hull Sonar, Active/Passive Search & Track. Max range 40nm

On the map the green range circle shows the max range of the longest range sensor which is the Type 2065 TASS. 100nm

Now if I disable the TASS or move the Sub to shallow water <150m I would expect the range circle to now display the detection arc for the Flank array 70nm

This doesn't happen, the green range circle now shows the detection arc for the Hull Sonar 40nm with its blind spot displayed to the rear.

If I disable both the Type 2079 Hull Sonar and the Type 2065 TASS the green range circle for underwater sensor's disappears. The detection arc for the Type 2072 Flank array is never displayed.

Does this indicate that the Flank array isn't working in Command ?

In the attached save game:

The S 119 Asture class sub is heading north at creep speed. A Commercial Tanker is behind the sub in the Type 2079 Hull Sonar's blind spot travelling at flank speed,
The Type 2065 TASS has been disabled for this test.

The Tanker is detected by the Type 2079 Hull Sonar's when it leaves the Hull sonar's blind spot. The Flank array doesn't detect the Tanker.

As the Flank array's are mounted on the side of the sub, I would expect the Flank array to detect the contact before the bow sonar?

On the manufacturers website it claims the Thales flank arrays provide levels of performance that dramatically increase
the submarine’s ability to detect, track and classify contacts at long range and represent a unique capability.

Hi thanks for you query, yes flank arrays do work in Command, I will get back to you after going through the save file :)

Hey cmanouser1,

I'll take a look at this and get back to you ASAP--this year, promise [:)]

This was actually a bug; it's fixed now [:)]
