Vetkin -> Vetkin vs. Frank W. (6/4/2003 1:05:58 AM)

Another British vs. German battle, the Brits trying to stave off 2 German commanders now, Capt Chris and now Frank W.

How will the Brits fare under the (in)capable hands of VetkiN? We shall soon see :D

Vetkin -> (6/4/2003 1:09:37 AM)

This is a different kind of battle for me BTW, cuz its a medium map, first time...

I usually like a lot of points crammed into small maps... I just like the general slaughter that ensues AND if I'm getting wasted, I can generally pull off a draw by the immense attrition that follows each small map battle for both sides hehehe

Frank W. -> (6/4/2003 5:20:36 AM)

"itīs hot in the desert. no news here. " oberst frank w. thinks as he overlooks the battlefield.

"secure the area with a fast push westwards, destroy any british positions and then head for tobruk" his orders directly from rommel say. "what a joke, the weathergod is on the side of the brits and rommel as good a leader he may be seems to have phantasies which can not be fullfilled this time, with this force...". frank w. says to his 1st staff officer.....

even as worse is that the battlefields shows no good terrain for attack. mostly open desert, a few hills...and the brits are supposed to sit on the hills just overlooking this **** area.

what what can you do as soldier in the german army, you must follow orders *sigh*

the movements of our forces in sandstorm is far to slow for a "fast push". regardless of that the landsers and tankers take their positions and are soon showerd by an art. barrage from all kinds of pieces in the enemys arsenal: mortars,25pd,4.5 and 5.5 inch guns...which kill some soldiers.

"what a good beginning, huber", frank w. says sarcastic to the leader of the armored forces. maj. huber. " herr oberst, we will attack and blow the tommys out of the desert " replies huber who took part in the poland campaign and is not used to the desert fighting and the determined commonwealth resistance.

suddenly a STUG ( one of the new ones w/ longer 75mm gun ) spots a FO vehicle and kills it. Further a Grant is spotted which is attacked by this STUG and a Marder. But all shots miss and one 75mm grenade doesnīt manage to penetrate the good front armor of this new US delivered tanks....

the german art shoots some smoke rounds and the landsers fight their way through the unnerving sandstorm.....

Vetkin -> (6/4/2003 10:39:18 AM)

The M3 fires both main guns at the STUG but misses, hoping only to slow it down, for the Stug is notorious for its heavy frontal armor. In return, the Stug fires a single round and hits the M3, shocking the crew and reminding them of German accuracy. They prudently back up.

A German scout car is pounded by 37mm and 75mm shots... The brave little car zig and zagged but was finally tagged and blown to the heavens by a 75mm shell.

Not much action this turn as the Brits hunker down, annoyed by all the smoke. Cannons have been reloaded.

Frank W. -> (6/4/2003 10:11:29 PM)

"okay, how is it going " ?? asks oberst frank w. " oberst, we lost 1 recon car this turn due to another grant "

" do you dare to report me such minor things !!!" replies the oberst, but in the next second he thinks he was to harsh

" sorry, the last arty barrage by the brits didnīt do good for my nerves, iīm getting old it seems"

"i understand herr oberst the sit. is as follows:

our inf. for that are no transports provided can move only slowly through the sandstorm.

we have only detected 2 grant tanks till now from the enemy. the one in the middle section of the front killed a marder which tried to move to some rough terrain as cover, but the british gunners are good it seems. we move forward another STUG but again donīt kill the grant. but is is believed it is damaged. in the south our recon forces had to pull back since they got threatened by the 2nd M3.

our art continues firing smoke and the enemy again uses masses of mostly 3 inch mortar fire trying to disable our 2 STUGīs in the central front "

" good huber, we make progress. very slowly it seems... but i think itīs sad that only 2 yankee tanks can hold up our whole kampfgruppe. so move forward your tanks and attack them !! "

" oberst! i fear hidden AT guns in the hills right before us ! so i must protest at this order. letīs get the inf in front to clear the way !! " huber replies shocked.

oberst frank w. smiles kindly at huber " my dear: our inf. is to slow at moment and they can be slaughtered by hidden mgīs the same as your tanks by pakīs.... so move them! FAST !!! any more questions ??? "

huber " No " ! he salutes and leaves the command tent, with a sorrowful face.....

Vetkin -> (6/5/2003 12:49:15 AM)

40mm spots some crewmen and promptly slaughters them. A motorcycle group is also spotted racing towards the British forces in the north. The forward edge of the famed blitzkrieg it seems.

"Engage that Stug with our 6 pounder!"

"But sir! This will reveal our guns' position!"

"I don't care! Fire that gun and destroy that tank! It's dangerous to our armored forces!"

The 6 pounder fires and hits twice but does nothing to the seemingly impenetrable armor of the stug, which boasts more than 80mm of frontal armor (and this is in 1942.)

"ARTILLERY! FIRE FOR EFFECT!"

The long-range guns of the British army fires, raining hell upon those who try to go against the might of the British empire. Cannons are fired on suspected positions of enemy forces. Radio intercept ndicates some chaos on German lines, especially on those who are unlucky enough to be under the 5.5 inch.

Frank W. -> (6/5/2003 6:11:07 PM)

"of course the cowardly british army can only fight from concealed postions and with arty.... " thinks oberst frank w. has he watches the soldiers throwing themselfes to the ground and trying to hide from the arty barrage. but there is no protection here, the terrain doesnīt give us any cover sadly. :(

except for raining steel from the brits and smoke from the germans not much to report.

we still doesnīt manage to kill one single tank, but one hit damages the M3 in the center front and the crew bails out. we shower them with mg fire from the STUGīs trying to prevent them from climbing back into their steel - vehicle.. or steel - coffin better to say :D

the 6pd ATG seems to be blinded by the masses of smoke ( we hope :rolleyes: )..

Vetkin -> (6/5/2003 8:44:03 PM)

Not much again this turn as the Germans seem to be slowing their advance... Probably cautious of the British big guns :D which are now mostly blinded by an inordinate amount of sand & smoke :mad:

That M3 crew is fleeing their vehicle which is seriously dented beyond hope... That Stug will pay I swear! :mad:

Frank W. -> (6/6/2003 12:48:25 AM)

uffz. delmenhorst has a feeling that someone is watching him...and he sees a little sign before his eyes looking like this. "*". his senses are quite sensitive due to his front record.
"okay, männer i know there in this hills are masses of brits but we have no choice, letīs advance" " he kicks the gas pedal of his BMW motorbike and drives through the sand in direction of the the enemy suspected frontline....

while this happens in the north and south of the front as long as hubers tanks have made some progress only to be threatened by 40mm AA fire, which takes out another kubelwagen. the recon troops could get out of it, but lose 1 men...

" we are unable to locate the location of the 40mm gun(s) ..seems to be good camouflaged and covered, oberst ! "....

" no good, huber! **** i wish to have some recon plane, but in these conditions itīs hopeless to call the luftwaffe. i did send a memo to rommel if he can send us some trucks and perhaps some more arty support btw. " replies frank w.

uffz. schreiber suddenly enters the tent " message from rommel, herr oberst "

" her damit !!! "

frank w. studies the words from rommel: " dear frank w. i have made available some trucks for you and 1 or 2 mortars. sorry no more reeinforcements in the moment for you because in the northern area the 8th army started an offensive. so itīs critical that you take the position for protection of our flanks. good luck. "
signed erwin rommel

Vetkin -> (6/6/2003 1:57:51 PM)

Report from British HQ:

Rommel and his armored forces are pounding us. Reinforcements are not available at all for your section. You are to hold our flanks no matter the cost.

M3s engage motorcycle troopers racing towards British lines... killing some cyclists.

Artillery from both sides pound on suspected positions.

"Commander, this is looking grim, Stugs seem unstoppable..."

Frank W. -> (6/7/2003 1:09:33 AM)

report from german HQ:

we have stopped the allied attack and are now even advancing ! so it would be nice if you hurry a little bit over there to support
our advance on the flank !

huberīs tanks ( which are in fact mostly no tanks but STUGS ) are aproaching the clear terrain in front of the british central front hill.

they receive fire from a stuart 1 and a 6 pd AT gun.
luckily all shots miss. we silence the stuart w/ 75mm fire again
and shoot everything what is left in the area and can
reach the target at the 6 pd.!!

rifle fire, mg fire from kubelwagen MG34 and short 75mm HE grenades seem to harrass the enemy enough that he takes
no further attempts to threaten the glorious german panzer corps.

in the north our "old friend" the 40mm bofors kills some of our
motorcyclists. luckily one of our snipers with good eyes spots
the gun, and again we use all weapons at hand on it. which are mostly the handweapons from the motorbikes and the sniper rifle.

in the south 2 more M3 in covered positions fire all their weapons at our cyclists there. we manage again to kill one of the M3 with 75mm STUG guns ( thanks god for these weapons ). the other one is not in LOS but we direct a 75mm battery and a mortar at it.

" major !!! good work ! i havenīt seen such good tank crews for a long time !" yells oberst frank w at huber. " a pity that our inf is not able to close to the frontline because of the sandstorm and the enemy art which surpresses some of our troops. it seems you must do the work alone, huber "

" danke herr oberst. but you know tanks are alone are on the long run not enough to take any frontline. if they come into crossfire from AT and are assaulted by infantry they will be in
big trouble....what about the mortars and trucks rommel wanted to send ???"

" i donīt know. nothing arrived here. but i must say this time the brits chose to fight and we have only your tanks and the motorbikes to bring to bear. but there is no choice - advance!! "

Vetkin -> (6/7/2003 1:27:31 AM)

"Dammit sargeant!!! Destroy those StuGs!!!"

"Yesssar!"

With a mighty thump a 6 pounder takes aim and destroys a StuG clouded with sand (one of the crappier versions sad to say)

A Marder is also fired upon, hit twice but survives... incredible for an open-topped and thinly armored mobile gun.

Artillery from both sides pound each other, Brits mostly getting the worse of it with accurate 81mm fire.

"HOLD THE LINE!!!"

"Yesssar! We will do our best sar! Stug seen climbing middle hill!"

"Destroy it!"

Frank W. -> (6/7/2003 3:56:53 AM)

" aaahhhhh " the comander of the STUG 3E cries in pain as hot metal pieces cut through his arm....." it seems we really got hit, unbelievable....", weird thoughts in his head. " get out of here, männer ".....but only one answers his call all other men are killed by the hit penetrating the side armor.

the 2 men leave the STUG and got savely out of hit, duck in the sand and watch the battle which unfolds before their eyes in an almost majestic picture.... " we had luck this time, hans. i think we are quite save here behind this dune. " says the (ex) driver of the STUG to his uffz. " ja, but my arm looks not very good..." replies the uffz looking at the bloody mass which was before his under - arm. " but we have our live thatīs all that counts"...

suddenly loud blasts and the desert below them seems to cry in pain as heavy 4.5 + 5.5 shells land nearby them. they dig deeper in the sand, but.... only some meters away a shell lands which spits out 1000s of splinter which cut right through the head of the uffz. he doesnīt feel any pain....

the STUG driver looks down and cries: " hans..... no....."

while that tragic scene other examples of german bravery are given:

in the north uffz. delmenhorst drives his motorcycle squad right into the english frontline, killing all crew mebers of the 6 pd. gun there, which supposedly killed the STUG... other bikes and tanks in some distance follow...

in the middle front a STUG which had transported some recon forces and killed 2 grant tanks manages to hide on a slope and then suddenly driving up a steep road right into the english lines where 2 AT crews ( their PIAT had 1 hex to less range to harm the STUG sadly for them ) and a 3inch mortar crew are badly wounded or captured. some try to escape instead fighting !! where is the british morale :confused:

in the south the sit is unclear. one motorcycle section takes this turn the first vic. hex . we pound the hills nearby there with 81mm and 75mm fire. nothing compard to the british heavyweights though, but our off-board batteries are out of contact :(

" it goes better than i thirst thought. but i wonder where all the british infantry men and machineguns are which should have be there to protect the PAK and FLAK guns. perhaps they wait until the most of our inf. is in range and then open an deadly fire from concealed positions.... " frank w. thinks.

uffz. schreiber in the meantime reports the news that some trucks + mortars from rommel have arrived. perhaps we can get some more infantry to the front before the battle is over....:)

Vetkin -> (6/8/2003 12:08:24 AM)

"Sir! The first line might be breaking! Our troops have no weapons against the Stugs' armor!"

"DAmmiT Sargeant!!! HOLD THAT LINE RIGHT SMARTLY!!!!"

"We will sure try sir! Pressure is too much for the boys I'm afraid, 81mm pounding us to hell sir!"

To the north and south, a few more cyclists are blown away...

Main guns can't see a **** thing!

"DammiT! Where's my Goddamn artillery!!?!?!?"

"It's coming sir!!!!"

"Whatever happens, HOLD THE LINE!!!! More time is needed before they breach that first line!"

"YesssiR!"

Frank W. -> (6/8/2003 3:56:48 PM)

as my faster forces now close up the battle rages all over the front with peaks in the north and central...

i believe we kill another light tank ( stuart ) but canīt confirm the sandstorm is still limiting any good sight.

from rommel have arrived 2 mot. motars and some troop transport vehicles. good news for the germans.

Vetkin -> (6/8/2003 9:37:51 PM)

Unfortunately... the sandstorm has blinded your Stug commander too much...

The middle hill is the scene of a heroic battle as a squad of riflemen charge the Stug with everything they have, rifles, lmgs, rifle grenades and grenades to no avail. But this achieves the desired effect as the surprised tank commander rotates his turretless platform to face the infantry. At this point the Stug thought to be knocked out comes to life...pounding shot after shot at the Stugs vulnerable side armor, but to no avail. Another stuart rushes to finish the job and finally destroys the Stug.

An M3, also in the middle hill on the otherhand got too cocky, blasting a Pz-IV with its turret mounted 75mm to smithereens and destroying a kubelwagen with its 37mm. Because of this success the tanks move forward, unaware of an overwatched Stug down south which destroys it.

The south is still relatively quiet, another MC rider killed. A lot of tanks are approaching however... Artillery pounds fiercely on both sides. Casualties are suffered by both armies as big calibers like the 150mm and the 4.5 inch land haphazardly over suspected positions.

"Sir, line is still holding... we might have a problem down south however... Large concentration of tanks and mobile AT guns (Stugs)"

"Good job so far sargeant... Hold the line... and we promise we'll bring you the heavy guns!"

"Yessssir!"

Frank W. -> (6/9/2003 5:36:49 AM)

last turn 2 of our wonder weapon tanks were destroyed which gave my faith back to the british army....

this turn we lose a couple of motorbikers in the north trying to storm the hill alone :o

the smoke we dropped now hinders the sight of the supporting tanks :(

some krupp trucks are underway to front and should load troops in the next turn :)

the german afrikakorps decided in the future to not order assault in sandstorms :mad:

Vetkin -> (6/9/2003 11:58:45 AM)

South...
The British commander stared in awe and shock as shot after shot from the M3 battle tank bounced off a Panzer III.

"No. 2! Assist him!"

With a roar of engines, No. 2 tank moves right beside No. 1 and fires everything he has and finally manages to pierce the Mark III's armor with a 75mm artillery shell, destroying it.

A mortar crew spots an MC squad and pours everything on their heads without causing a single casualty...in return one of their crew explodes with a direct hit from a 75mm shell coming from a Panzer IV. Angered by this death, the sargeant orders the nearby M3 to open up on the Mark IV. The Mark IV, still aiming to destroy the mortar squad did not know what hit it.

Middle...
Another M3 tank moves up this turn and fires at a StuG B's vulnerable side/top armor, destroying it. Surviving crewmen from a previously destroyed M3 pop smoke in front of the tank to cover it from a newer and flanking StuG.

North...
A MC squad is dispersed, a concentration of armor consisting of Stugs and Mark IIIs are spotted... this is gonna be one hell of a battle...

Artillery once again unfailingly smashes across british troops, shattering a lot of soldier's morale...5.5 inchers open up right on target...
"FIRE FOR EFFECT!"

A tank, a truck, an MG42 squad and an MC squad are hit by the fearsome display of British medium guns. The MG42 squad is decimated and disperses. The others receive casualties and probably a whole lot of shell shock.

Vetkin -> (6/10/2003 2:38:49 PM)

Another Panzer III scrapped down south by a flank shot from the 75mm gun of an M3.

"That is for our valiant forward observer who stood his ground against infantry, recon, armor and all!"

Not much else this turn, Stuarts and 6 pounder takes potshots at a Stug up north, scores around 3-5 hits but does nothing. Armor pressure up north is increasing, and so is 150mm barrage...

Vetkin -> (6/12/2003 10:10:24 AM)

(Silence ensues as a temporary cease fire is agreed upon due to the vacation of the German commander)

Meanwhile the Brits formulate a plan to counterattack...

Vetkin -> (6/13/2003 3:31:38 PM)

Ey frank when are you going to get back? I'll be away from my computer for around 1 1/2 to 2 days cuz its being repaired, will post my turn when i get it back ASAP. :D

Vetkin -> (6/15/2003 6:55:44 PM)

After a bit of respite the battle commences once again...German armor are climbing the hills of the British first line, with infantry and motorcycles not far behind. This costs them 2 immobilized Stugs and 1 destroyed. A Marder is also pounded to a pulp by 40mm auto-cannon. The dam is bursting and British troops won't be able to hold for too much longer under the heavy pressure... 150mm barrage doesn't help British morale.

Frank W. -> (6/15/2003 8:44:11 PM)

i couldnīt post my before turn....

something wrong with the forum i guess...?

Vetkin -> (6/15/2003 11:21:18 PM)

Try it again :D

Frank W. -> (6/16/2003 2:18:21 AM)

no sir !

i did send you a PM before some weeks because
i read that some ppl. say you are a good player.

while this game is going not so good i think ( but the
sandstorm and me advancing gives me a light excuse..)
and another one in 44 as gerry vs. brits iīm getting badly
hurt... it seems iīm a average player. mostly got draws
and 2 wins w/ the allied forces.

i will play you viking, after i finished a game, because
4 games at the same times seems to be too much
for me.....

Vetkin -> (6/16/2003 12:15:35 PM)

Err you didn't send the file to my email :D

Hey Viking! Want to play a gamE?

Frank, its not called being average, its called being distracted by playing too many games at one time hehehe :D

Vetkin -> (6/16/2003 12:18:44 PM)

Oh yeah, you'll learn the meaning of "slaughter" when you play against Viking he he he

You know the sneaky tank flanking/ hit&run tactics I'm using on you right now? They're a very poor poor imitation of Viking, the master flanker hehehe :D

VikingNo2 -> (6/16/2003 1:00:31 PM)

Sure Sir Vetkin what do you have in mind, send me a email, I'm going to butt out of you AAR now
