fastfrank -> more help needed (6/8/2018 4:38:45 AM)

Encountered major problem with TOAW IV (incl update) running France Cobra, I, playing Allies with AI handling movement & combat for almost all formations. My save was after reviewing planned combats and immediately before ordering resolve combats in last round of Allied turn 13. TOAW ran Allied combats and started German turn. First problem is TOAW then vanished during 1st or 2nd German round, and has repeatedly done this every time since. Second problem is that map panes would repeatedly go black until TOAW died and vanished. While awaiting expert assistance from Tech Support, I have tried all the below steps to look for a work around.
Check H/W-Ran all of the Dell tests for PC, CPU, memory, HD and Graphics board- all passed
Check S/W-Deleted TOAW, then deleted empty folders, reinstalled TOAW & patch as administrator, then ran as admin, still crashed
Timing conflict with 8 processor chip? - Slow combat & movement displays for both sides, Display animation 10 ms; combat 25 – map panel intermittent goes black except for info pane, with AI playing German side game vanishes in 1st or 2nd round every time. Both sides 100, 250, same results but less black map view. Both sides 1000, 1000, Same crash, just took 51 min 42 sec for Germans (AI) to get through round 2, then poof. Ran opart-slow as admin, same result. Detailed combat reports & slow ack, Same crash
Win10 incompatibility, used Win compatibility wizard settings for Win8, Win7 and Winxp, all blew up, although black maps vanished and WinXP compatability lasted until round 6 of German turn 13.
Just reran turn 11, which ran without problem a few days ago, it too blew up during the german turn. So has a recent MS update to Win10 created a conflict with TOAW?

upload file(s) didn't work

zakblood -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 4:44:54 AM)

to understand more on what is or could be going on, it maybe more helpful for you to post your report here,

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

i'm now away for a week, so unless someone else jumps in and reads and gives a understanding on the issues and report supplied, i'll get on it when i;m back, and sorry now for the delay.

regarding tips for windows 10, as game work fine btw with it,

take a look at some of mine, for different systems, so not all apply

diadx, crash log and save file.

zakblood -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 5:42:47 AM)

things just to check,

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630

make sure the games using the Nvidia one, as when 2 are in a given system, the game has no idea by default on which one to use, one will work all the time, the other will work some of the time, and crash when large things happen, as one has plenty of ram, the other next to none

the next thing is, to have a clean startup profile with not so much junk loaded

zakblood -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 5:52:51 AM)

your report has no gaming errors in it, so all the errors are on the pc O/S side, as per report,

+++ WER9 +++:
Fault bucket 2006759968982924358, type 5
Event Name: RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: pcdrmemory2.p5x
P2: 6.0.6992.1111
P3: 10.0.17134.2.0.0

with this one standing out, eg most of the time this points to PC-Doctor, a dell support tool app, it's junk, and like all junk runs in the back ground and sticks its nose in when not needed, and if it's when a game is running, the game will crashes of cause a error, but as not mentioned as a gaming one, it's from somewhere else, so either remove the junk from the start up and re test, or uninstall all the junk / bloatware that most pc maker bundle with there pc's, and problem should go away.

check the AV and firewall logs also, and see if either of them has anything in them, as the report mentions nothing game related, so something else is at fault, now you need to find out what app, and normally it's a Anti virus or firewall one which causes it, then again check for spyware also, as i don't know what apps and programs are running in the back ground, and any of them could be the fault, but 99% sure it's not the game, as it's not mentioned

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 5:54:07 AM)

Will check. I think display is connected to port from the graphics card but need to confirm. Nonetheless will check connection, go to NVIDIA ctl panel and ensure NVIDIA is the default and then retest. Results tomorrow. Thanks

zakblood -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 5:55:25 AM)

is this a inbuilt game? or a custom built one from someone? as there's loads of errors in the game log, so will leave this note here also for the developer to look at

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 5:58:40 AM)

Copy, will check & advise

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 6:00:29 AM)

running the France Cobra ver 4.0 scenario from the TOAW IV release

zakblood -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 6:20:53 AM)

ok thanks, will post a note to the developer also

hingram -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 1:12:03 PM)

One thing to try is to run it while operating in Safe Mode. That should tell you if there is anything interfering.

Note: I run it under Win10 Enterprise Edition (required for work), not a manufacturer install.

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/8/2018 9:58:15 PM)

NVIDIA doesn't show a choice. Display is connected to NVIDIA output port, nothing connected to CPU display port.

Lobster -> RE: more help needed (6/9/2018 3:24:56 AM)

Because hardware is not connected to an output port does not mean it is not using resources. Just sayin. You should be able to disable mobo vid in the bios. [;)]

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/15/2018 11:08:56 PM)

Couldn't get the choice in the NVidia control panel, but went to Device Manager and disabled the Intel HD display card and reran TOAW. Identical failure.

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/15/2018 11:13:20 PM)

Reinstalled all Dell's list of latest applicable drivers, including a later NVidia graphics driver. Reran TOAW and the blackened maps are no longer, but game still blew up in round 2 of German turn 13. Ran in Safe Mode as admin, TOAW made it to round 5 of German turn 13 and then blew up.

fastfrank -> RE: more help needed (6/20/2018 3:33:47 AM)

It is the released scenario however I edited the calendar to 30 turns and edited the events to retain 8thAF for 30 turns and start airlift a few turns early.
