Uncle Lumpy -> Rocket question (6/24/2018 6:32:03 PM)

Hi, New to the game, and I'm enjoying it so far. Has anyone researched and used Rocket Weapons? I haven't read all of the threads in the forums yet. I've only came across one discussion regarding it. Simply curious.

PvtBenjamin -> RE: Rocket question (6/24/2018 9:06:17 PM)

I've never been a fan of rockets (not to be confused with rocket artillery), a small percentage of people I've played use them extensively. There are much more effective weapons for the money in my opinion.

This is what is in the manual

Rocket Weapons – only Germany can research this category and deploy Rocket units. It improves the Resource attack value and strike range values for all Rockets, while also increasing the chance by 10% that a rocket attack against a resource occupied by a defender will inflict a hit on that defending unit. Note that Rocket’s effectiveness decreases with range.

Hope that helps enjoy the game

I also never invest in Rockets, and I'd like to hear from someone who does, because I think Strategic Bombers are very important and would rather spend German MPP's on Strats than Rockets. I have seen another thread where some feel that Strats are not worth it, so I am curious as to why Rockets are to some.

In my opinion Strats a very worth it, but they are costly. Rockets not so much.

Hi Uncle Lumpy,

if you are new to the game I can only recommend to read almost everything here. It is a great game and a great and helpful community.

We are also running some sort of tournament. Feel free to read the thread (rules) and challenge one player. If you are new you might get a bloody nose in your first games but I can only recommend it anyway. It might hurt but there is no faster way to learn. You will see new strategies, you will try them yourself, you will see the counter strategies and you will try them yourself... and so on.

As said: the best way to get better.

Have fun and good luck

Thanks everyone for your response. I am reading as much of the forum as quickly as I can, and I just started my second reading of the manual. I can see some potential for Rocket Weapons, but noticed next to nothing regarding their research or application in the forum. From my limited understanding of the actual weapons developed in WWII the guidance system seems to have been the real issue. Both the V1 and V2 had range and payload, and they mostly corrected the nasty habit they had of blowing up on launch. But actually hitting a target they aimed at seems to have been another thing. Given time, they probably would have solved that issue, too. Given that, I was wondering if in the game the final levels of Research actually addressed this issue enough to warrant their development? I agree that Strategic Bombers seem a more useful and viable option. But that is my humble, and so far, mostly pedantic opinion. I've played several starts of most of the scenarios, none to completion, yet (just trying ideas and having fun). I've been very impressed with how the game plays, and the AI is pretty good (schooled me once in France-held me up much longer than I thought it could [:)] ). I've enjoyed my reads of the forum, too. Besides the game itself, the community on the forum is the main reason I actually bought the game!

Pssst! Don't tell LLv34Mika but I've actually researched Rockets in our current AAR to test them in the field. We should see them make an appearance come barbarossa... [;)]

Taxman66 -> RE: Rocket question (6/25/2018 10:28:13 PM)

Typical German play has been to sell off the Rocket Tech investment and not research them at all nor Strategic Bombing.
The reasoning is that these are: 1) They are primarily economic weapons; and 2) 4 (5 with Strat bombers) levels of Tech is very expensive for just 2 units (1 in the case of strat bombers.

Uncle Lumpy -> RE: Rocket question (6/25/2018 10:54:30 PM)

Thanks Taxman. That makes sense.
Hey KorutZelva I will follow your AAR closely.

Happy gaming!
Lumpy

In the World War Three 1946 Mod I've created a practical V4 rocket or Wasserfall SAM missile. It is a very effective unit that is devastating to daylight bombing raids.
