Could someone tell me if I am correct in my interpretation of the manual wrt the MPP plunder calculation? Which is that the size of the plunder is directly proportional to number of the surrendering nation's units on the battlefield at the time of surrender? Eg, does it behoove Germany to spare as many Polish units as possible after taking Warsaw?

In a sense you're right, though destroying Polish units gives your units and HQs experience, which is potentially worth more in future campaigns than the MPP equivalent of the arms that are collected when the enemy surrender (i.e. the plunder component).
