Changing equipment weight (with the built-in equipment editor) doesn't seem to make any difference to the weight of units containing the equipment, as reported on the unit info panel ??

Only the weight of armored equipment (i.e. equipment with "Armored" flag) will be counted for.
It's annoying but seems that they are not going to fix it.

Thanks for that; didn't realise. But the main thing I'm looking at is a bit different: changing the weight of eg a tank in the equipment editor doesn't seem to have any effect on the weight of a unit containing the tank.

For a concrete example: In the Overlord 44 scenario, the reported weight of the US 746th Tk Bttn, an M4/75 unit, is "1293".

Triple the weight of the M4/75 to 100,000kg in the equipment editor, and the weight of the battalion remains the same at "1293" - both as reported in the "Show Unit Report" panel, and for how much sea transport capacity it uses when you embark it.

From How to Edit the Equipment Database
The value in the DF database entry for such vehicles actually
pertains to the vehicle weight, instead.

All factors can be quite complicated, and users are on their own.

The in-game Equipment Editor has a bug in it as reported in post #11, here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4412492

This has been fixed, but won't be available till the next update.

Thanks - missed that.
