Numdydar -> Still no resolution fix? (7/3/2018 11:23:04 PM)

My default monitor resolution 2560x1600.

So to play the game I have to reset my display settings every time and then change it back when I am done? What year am I in?

This sucks. I'd love to get a refund for this as I have kept the game as I keep hoping this would be fixed. But sadly not yet, if ever.

And I was looking to by the Normandy as I am very interested in that theater. But not now.

Hi Numdydar,

Tigers on the Hunt unfortunately does not support dynamic resolution. Every single resolution that is in the game I had to custom build. This is unfortunate and I'm sorry about it. The game currently supports the following full screen/windowed mode resolutions:

1024x768, 1280x800, 1360x768, 1366x768, 1536x864, 1280x960, 1440x900, 1280x1024, 1680x1050, 1600x900, 1600x1200, 1920x1080, 1920x1200, 2560x1440 and 4K (3840x2160).

Workaround: you can play the game in windowed mode, using resolution: 2560x1440.

Open the configuration.ini file using notepad (not Microsoft Word) and set the following:

Windowed=Yes
Sizex=2560
Sizey=1440

Then save the file. Now run the game, you will not have to mess around with your monitor settings and 2560x1440 will almost fill up the whole screen.

I have to say, we need to remember that this has essentially been a one-man band effort, not some corporate, EA-level product, and as such it's not going to be as sleek as some multi-million dollar supported product. Is it really that much hassle? I purposely upgraded to a Lenovo mini-laptop so I could play this. I just change the resolution and then put it back afterwards.

Yes it is a big deal. There are other 1 man developers that have developed some pretty good games that do not require people to change their desktop resolution to play their games. This is a commercial product and is the only game in my library that requires this kind of nonsense. You actually say you bought a completely different PC to play the game. And you thought that is ok?

Thanks for the reply Peter. I will try that and see how it looks. Hopefully at some point you can add dynamic scaling in your dev tools for games in the future as it should be a considered a standard feature given the wide (and getting wider) range of resolutions available these days.

Numdydar -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/4/2018 2:41:40 PM)

I tried your settings on my PC and unfortunately this is still not acceptable for me. Most of my screen is just black as shown below.

It might be acceptable if the window could be resized/moved but apparently the window is fixed in place and can't be moved/resized. Unless I am missing something.

I know that other scenarios would cover more of the black area and/or playing around with various resolutions. But as I have said before this is not acceptable to me to have jump through these hoops just to play a game in this day and age.

Talon_XBMCX -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/4/2018 7:48:02 PM)

That's how my screen looks at 1920 x 1080 … with all the black space. It's a long map rather than a wide one.

Map management is one of the reasons I set this one aside. It wasn't easy to tell where the map borders were without constantly scrolling around. Being able to zoom in or out would be helpful - or a mini-map of some kind.

I always felt not enough of the battlefield was visible at one time.

dox44 -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/4/2018 8:28:33 PM)

i agree. i'm using 3840_2160. mine looks similar.

mini map is that world looking thing...third icon or so at top. can you access?

i've 'fought through' the scrolling issue

Talon_XBMCX -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/4/2018 8:59:48 PM)

I forgot about that … thanks for the reminder. Been a while since I played this title.

For me, it's a bit too "mini" to be useful. It tends to lag the game and needs a mouse over to refresh unit movement. A bit counterintuitive for the right click needed to close it. Usually a button works as a toggle ... same for the menu item. Having to go back to the manual to figure out how to close a window was a bit frustrating.

Looking forward to the Normandy DLC. It's bringing me back for another look and may help to fight through some of the things that I found frustrating.

dox44 -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/5/2018 3:55:10 AM)

lol...i don't use it because i can never remember how to close it.

bbmike -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 1:41:38 PM)

Also, make sure you are not using any Display Scale settings in Windows 10. That causes problems a lot. I run at 125% scaling and when I switch back to 100% the problems usually go away.

Numdydar -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 2:50:57 PM)

But again you are fiddling with display settings just to play a game. This is 2018 not 1998.

I would love to get the Normandy expansion as it is my favorite tactical/ops area. But not if I have to mess around with display settings just so the game looks the way it should be. Way too many other options to play that do not need this kind of babysitting.

zakblood -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 4:49:12 PM)

has anyone seen or used my guide?

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4101966&mpage=2

works fine for me and i use a none standard and none default DPI setting and don't have no issues as shown, runs fine full screen and works well out of the box with the latest update as shown

Peter Fisla -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 5:20:13 PM)

The game only support 100% DPI scale setting only, sorry guys. It might work with different DPI setting but I don’t guarantee it

fuselex -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 5:26:20 PM)

I`ve spent a lot of years working for the government .
Would be safe to say I could be called a bit lazy :)
But still , moving my eyes a little to the left and shift clicking on units is not really work.
Yes , I see what you may be getting at .
Those hoops you have to jump over would totally take away the enjoyment of the game.
It`s certainly not acceptable :).
maybe things will change , but if you don`t have a go at Toth because of those instant impressions , you will
be the one to miss out.

dox44 -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 10:57:26 PM)

i scale at 150 with no problems. 3840_2160. the icons are still about 1/2 inch. full
screen. that's as high as i can go. will not boot at 175%...except in a window and i
go back and forth between full screen and window.

dox44 -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/6/2018 10:59:21 PM)

depending on how you meant 'support'...i can scale at 150%. 3840_2160. not at anything higher.

I looked at your guide and very through. Very nice job.

The major difference between your settings and mine are you happen to have monitors whose default settings match those of the game. My monitor default setting does not match any of the settings the game offers. So I am just sol.

Since I actually have the game, I am not missing out [:)] Since I have tons of other games to play, ToAW IV, Combat Mission, etc where scaling is not an issue I am not pinning away because I do not want to play this particular game.

Even an ancient game like Steel Panthers can run at my resolution with no issue.

I am glad scaling is not an issue for you. But is is for me so until it is addressed, it will sit on my hard drive untouched.

If I could get a refund I sure would take it :)

Peter Fisla -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/7/2018 7:11:10 PM)

Hi Numdydar, both the game engine and the game editor now naively support 2560 x 1600 resolution.

You can get the latest beta version of the game engine here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4504508

You can get the latest beta version of the game editor here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4504745

Numdydar -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/8/2018 2:37:47 PM)

Very nice Peter. I just tried it and it works great. Thanks so much for listening.

Now if we just had in game zoom levels [:)]

benpark -> RE: Still no resolution fix? (7/9/2018 5:06:57 PM)

I hope someday we might see a zoomable map. It is very hard to read as is, and the black margin is...not ideal.

In the meantime, here is a hack for those that don't know about it. You will need to scroll around a bit more, but it certainly helps me see better.

https://lifehacker.com/5802134/shortcuts-for-quickly-zooming-in-and-out-of-any-windows-application
The game is interesting, and fills a void, so I'm checking o the updates as they come in.

I would honestly pay for a UI update. It's a major priority for me, as the amount of clicks and squinting is not ideal.
