There's a VC unit near Chu Chi or Phu Bai I'm not sure which and he's about to overrun my airfield....D'oh.

Here's a shot of a VC unit really close to Phanh Rang and there's an airfield at risk. The previous unit just dropped the bridge and disbanded and this one doesn't have a bridge to drop so he'll probably overrun the airfield this time.

Edit: I had to edit the picture and repost it here because I just noticed that there's Two VC units in this picture.

Here's a shot of yet another VC unit down south in the Delta. I'm not sure which way he's going to go but I think he's after my bridges.

Here's a VC unit sneaking up on Pleiku I think it is, and another one south of the first in the boonies.

Here's an image with three VC units in it. They are all down south in the Delta in places where I'll probably have to use the heliborne troops for.

There was a disaster!!! Some sappers got within range of Da Nang's airfield(s) and evaporated about three units, two fixed-wing and one helicopter. F-4's and A-4's and Cobra's and some of the heavy and medium transport helicopters. I'll have to get some of those MP's from MACV to garrison the airfields or close to them. Make a perimeter around the airfield. Maybe a Marine regiment for each major coastal city. I'm not sure what's best. I've been putting arty close to the cities but it's evidently not helping.

I've decided to start moving the resting planes to bases in Thailand to get them out of harm's way a tiny bit. No sense in them resting at operational bases. It would be like the plane and crews going on R&R for a weekend or so. Long enough to get the spare parts together for an overhaul, a new calibration, and a new paint job. About half the fleet is resting.

I've got an aircraft unit that I need to move to Guam for a while. I want the squadrons to have four or five planes in them before they fly just in case they run into a radar-guided gun up north or the Migs become adventuresome, anyway, this Intruder squadron is down to it's last two planes and they aren't going to get very many very vast so just to get it out of the way I want to move it to Guam instead for it to rest there instead of in Thailand. I'm less likely to try to fly it on a mission that way.

Turn 16 (March 1966)

After the drama of February the offensive settles down and after only losing one VC unit last month the decision is made in Hanoi to keep the VC units that survived in the field to try and continue to stretch ARVN/US forces and new arrivals add to the effort. In addition next month sees a big influx of new units timed to exploit the offensive.

Just south of the DMZ and also in the hills east of the Cambodian border a number of ARVN Border Guard units arrive in and around Dong Ha and two units are surrounded and destroyed by the NVA still operating in the area. Dong Ha is recaptured as eyes again turn towards Quang Tri city and its huge collection of artillery pieces.

Despite the attack on the airfields at Da Nang last month interdiction continues to be problematic and two VC units are eliminated as they attempt to cause further demolition problems for the US.

VP's are now at 12 which is slightly down but EVV has ticked up by another two points to 35.....

And all of a sudden the Thua Thien group's K48 inf bn appears on the road inbound from the trail. I think I'll give way and entice him further in-country so I can get on the west side of him and block his retreat. Either that or land on top of him like I've been doing.

New set of moves from Ian. T17:
Here's what's happening up north. The monsoon season has started and the aircraft performance is pitiful and I may as well not launch them. I've still got all kinds of arty at Quang Tri and I'm planning on bringing in some Marines and form a sort of front line near Quang Tri and hunker down I suppose.

Turn 17

Taking advantage of the monsoon the NVA resume their advance South and Quang Tri city is stormed again and over 40 ARVN heavy howitzers are destroyed.
A renewed rocket artillery bombardment of Da Nang airport wipes out a full squadron of F5's along with another 40 ARVN helicopters.

The spring offensive continues and multiple VC units join their comrades in the field and the news string details VC activity in 8 Provinces......are appeals going to Washington for more troops?

This may be the high water mark in 1966 but for now the EVV has hit 36 and their has been a jump in VP's from +12 to +17.

I think sudden victory is when you hit +40. And you're almost halfway there already.

larryfulkerson -> RE: CSV try II Ian is NLF larry is Allies csv_lgf_v1.0.sce (7/9/2018 1:06:57 PM)

There are two airfields at Chu Lai and there is a VC unit occupying the southern one and since there's a threat to the north one I've flown all the planes to other fields nearby.

There's a problem with what I'm doing. I go search new area's and then behind me there's these little areas that turn back into VC areas and I don't know it and that means I need to search the old areas too. I hadn't thought of that and the VC have destroyed close to 100 airframes and vehicles and arty tubes and there's no good way to prevent it unless I start garrisoning the cities and have a circulating patrol going around the airfields constantly to make sure there's no VC hexes anywhere nearby. That's way more micromanagement than I'm willing to invest in this game. I would have to keep track of the moving units around each of the airfield groups at each of the cities that has airfields. That's close to 70 cities and I don't have that many units so I'll have to break down some units into pieces to give enough garrisoning units.

larryfulkerson -> RE: CSV try II Ian is NLF larry is Allies csv_lgf_v1.0.sce (7/9/2018 1:18:06 PM)

Playing the Allied side with "no borders" ON is causing way too much micromanagement
for my taste and so I've proposed to Ian that we do a restart with the borders on.
I haven't heard back yet so there's a chance that he's going to want to continue
until he ultimately wins here in about 30 turns or so.

devoncop -> RE: CSV try II Ian is NLF larry is Allies csv_lgf_v1.0.sce (7/9/2018 1:41:26 PM)

That's fine Larry[:)]

I have sent you an email. Let's try it with borders on (and your lower air losses fix)

My gut instinct is it may be too easy for the US but lets see. If it is then there may be a scenario design problem but it would be useful for us to know that.

I will take VC again and see how we get on.

All the best

ian

larryfulkerson -> RE: CSV try II Ian is NLF larry is Allies csv_lgf_v1.0.sce (7/9/2018 2:10:44 PM)

Ian says: yes, by all means let's restart and see it that makes the Allied side too easy. That data item might be interesting to
the scenario designer.
