murr -> Guadalcanal Campaign (6/11/2001 10:50:00 AM)

just finished the guad. camp. with A "DECISIVE VICTORY " AT 3200 PTS. I dont know how it was a decisive because i think it was the hardest group of scenarios i've played.I've been playing spwaw for approx. 6 mths. and this was the best and the hardest . I actually felt my adrenaline pumping during some of the battles when my troops were about to get overrun. I would have loved to do a proper AAR but unfortunately I was so into playing that I didnt keep track of each battle.I will list my core force though: 1 batt. usmc , 1 co. usmc raiders, 2 plts. usmc engineers , 1 plt. light tanks , and various supp. units such as arty and air when avaailable.I f anyone likes the pacific ao play this campaign , it is the best for true infantry combat, fire/manuever and using supporting arms . I'm sorry this is just a bunch of rambling but I'm excited about this game and cant wait to play more.Hats off to the matrix people and all their contributors. One question, since spmw was cancelled how about a modern oob list that could be downloaded as a patch? would that be possible so that gamers could create their own modern scenarios. love you guys :D

I've seen a number of posts lamenting the fact that SP:MW is cancelled. But don't despair, both the new games - Combat Leader & Close Assault - are planned to include modern Oob's that can be used. We all know the limitations of SPWaW, the new games will eliminate those and offer us addicts new heights of wargame ecstasy. BTW, congratulations on your victory in the Guadalcanal campaign, it is one tough sucker. [ June 11, 2001: Message edited by: REMF ]

Wow, congrats on the DV. Most just get a Draw or MV. How did you do in the last battle? It was the toughest and very challenging! :eek: Bruce Semper Fi

thanks for the congrats. , on the last battle , i also thought it was the toughest nut to crack , with my usmc units i advanced up the beach as the jungle was way too slow , my beach adv. also got stalled out and i compensated by mounting a company of inf. and my eng. units on the provided alligators and armor as well as my own light tanks . i then pushed through the jungle , immobilizing several of the vehicles , and broke off units to hit the objectives and then proceeded to the next.also left a stay behind force to fend off the last minute attacks that the japs seemed to employ in this campaign. i had alot of earlier v locs. lost because of this. i also did the same with the provided army units , i pulled a wide flanking move to take the jap beach head , supported with close air .with out mounting my troops on armor i dont think i would have even gotten close to the obj.the whole camp. was tough and got harder as it went along.

Good thinking. It forces you to look for alternatives other than the obvious tactic to sieze the objectives. Most have just hammered away with frontal assaults and failed to reach the critical beach objectives. If you don't get there by the last turn, you will see Jap barges leaving the beach area. This represents the evacuation of the Jap 17th Army from Guadalcanal. Well done. :D Bruce Semper Fi
