ahh, maybe I just haven't seen 'major' damage yet; (they just sank). So I guess those green fours that I can't repair perhaps have more to do with location. Thanks BBFB! (my tank and flight name callsign is 'bb', so I just can't call you that)

And another thing! Christmas Day of '41, in Tracker LB LB-119 Ship about to start building 11 days to completion. I look it up, its a landing barge. Aren't these things created by expending supply points at bases?

Not sure, but there might be various sizes of LB, or various ranges.

I think that one thing I would definitely advise the IJ early game is go 'shock attack' first. I've had some longer than expected hold outs (Rabaul, Tarakan, Menado) where smaller allied forces held out for a couple weeks. Some of it stronger forces than I remember as Ally, some me sending inadequate forces, some of it...? I think I may have helped myself along with a few persistent shock attacks. Perhaps even above 50% fatigue - depending. Thoughts?

You get double the AV doing a shock attack, but if it does not break the enemy defences it can wreck your attackers for a month or more! My experience is that shock attack should not be used until you have taken a measure of the enemy by bombardment or deliberate attack first. When you know what you are up against you can better decide when to shock attack. Things like lowering their forts enough or seeing that they have more destroyed squads than disabled in the last DA, or they have the Supply - malus.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (8/30/2018 2:06:36 AM)

I am known for my aggressiveness... The das boot is a reference to a 'boot' not a 'boat'. I was particularly referring to allied garrison forces outside of china early in the game. (Rabaul, Tarakan, Menado, etc.) I could have used my recon better too...

Well you do have "prior knowledge" of the state of those early war Allied garrisons from history or other AARs, so if you know they have low forts and weak AV, go ahead and use the SA. Or even the SS if you have them...[;)]

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (8/30/2018 9:44:11 PM)

Well, er no. I had a rough idea from several years ago which has proved quite faulty. I should have used more recon. There just seem to be many more allied units than I remember.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (8/30/2018 9:45:36 PM)

Doh! Now I get the SA joke...

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/1/2018 4:46:30 PM)

Something just dawned on me that may be of use. Although IJ DMS types may not be used for 'ASW', they do have depth charges, and may be used for escorting cargo, transport, amphibious TFs. It's obvious I know, but I hadn't considered their use in CS/ resource/ oil convoys. Until, of course they might be needed in their sweeping role. I think this may also apply to AMc. By the by I had also failed to notice that DD, DE, E etc can be used in the mine sweeping role, thank goodness I didn't learn this through the 'hull' method!

Says who? News to me. I use them in that role frequently.

These guys are somewhat different. That lower case 'c' stands for coastal and may limit their options, although not 100% sure as I've only used them in their intended roll. Doesn't mean you can't try other uses for them. For me I only keep what I feel I need as they'll convert to many other ship types, which are more needed in the early game. I use them in the roll they were designed for, that is to keep my ports clear of enemy mines.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/2/2018 2:06:07 PM)

You are of course correct rustysi - I did have a few beers in...bad crack perhaps.

And another thing I just realized. Why have I been loading my wpae.003 file into tracker before I have run it? (and thus leading myself to wonder why I always seem to be a day behind in tracker?) At least all this is happening in 12/41!

As I understand it, you should have the -archive switch set so you get the data in your save folder, then have Tracker read the files there, not the 003 save.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/5/2018 9:48:56 PM)

I just copy wpae.003 into my tracker folder after I've run the wpae.oo3 (and saved afterwards)on my game computer. I have track loaded on a separate laptop so I can reference it as I make my turn. I felt like I was living in a time warp because running in tracker before running the playback was giving me 'last turns' news.

Yaab -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/6/2018 12:54:44 PM)

Yep, you need to choose one slave slot as the Tracker slot in WITP:AE savegame screen, and you overwrite this slot on each successive turn. On each turn, you copy the upated 003.pws and drop it into the Tracker folder. Thus, Tracker can tracke the progress of your campaign.

Ok, but it sounded like dasboot 1960 was only getting tracker data on one date - the last turn played rather than a range of dates. I thought I had read that having an archive folder and setting tracker to follow the range of data in that folder was the way to get continuous data from every turn. The -archive switch puts the data from each turn into the folder automatically, so you only need to set Tracker up once and it will automatically add each turn it finds in the archive folder. No more manual copying of a save!

Just my understanding from what I have read, I do not know for sure that it works that way. Can any of the veteran tracker users confirm or correct this?

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/7/2018 3:25:49 AM)

I am loading each new turn as available. Of course I now have a hiccup in the dates in my master save file(I save every turn). Which then leads me to a question as to the -archive switch. Would this create a separate folder for each combat/operation/etc file, and thereby save me the hassle of creating/managing them on my own? I can see I'll have to do this eventually. Once again I wish to express my greatest appreciation to all responders.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/7/2018 10:04:49 PM)

And another thing... I have searched unsuccessfully for the method of loading SSX on SS, either with a web search or in the manual. Any help?

Set the mission to mini-sub transport (however it is worded) and you should get the text to load the mini sub on either the sub or mini-sub screen.

There's only a handful of submarines that are capable of piggy-backing one of these SSXs. Make sure you're using one of the right ones.

BBfanboy -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/8/2018 5:17:13 PM)

That little detail too! [:D]

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/8/2018 8:26:29 PM)

I believe the sub is eligible, well I did; because it allowed me to select the mission but then after I generated four of the SSXs I couldn't find the appropriate button. At least I appear to have been trying more or less correctly. Thank You!

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/9/2018 1:32:20 PM)

and another thing! I musta have missed the memo saying the IJ convoy setup I lifted from... (Damien?)Would draw down their origin ports in early 1942 (only Port Arthur so far, but I'm also seeing that the recommended lifts out of SRA ports, (perhaps from Solli?) appear oversized for places like Miri, Balikpapan, Brunei, others. I guess this is statement more than question, and I will cut down on my (heavy) losses to impressive allied subs, (even US faulties), I'm just wondering. Is it then normal for R/F/O convoys for the homeland to be sitting around waiting for full loads?. I see many merchies idle after the amphib bonus runs out. Other noobie imperialists be aware!

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/9/2018 3:34:14 PM)

For anyone looking... I went into scen 1 and checked. The mini sub carriers (SOME minisub carriers, the ones that start at PH) Are the I-16 Class (14k endurance)excuse me I just checked, Type C1 class. I don't see anything on the ship screen that denotes these as 'SSX Carries'. If anyone knows further, I'd sure love to have the info. Thanks again to all.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/9/2018 3:58:29 PM)

and another thing... I see the SSXs have a range of 4000 with an endurance of 84, a single phase movement of 5. I set up a task force, give a destination 5 hexes away, and voila it comes up 'red' as if there is not enough (range?, endurance?) I'm giving it a try anyway, but these little boats are intriguing me. I've read that the actual strategy for their use involved release near fleet actions on the high seas...My plan is to try and use them where I am having a consistent repot of 'CV' in a task force - in 1/42 - at Singapore.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/9/2018 9:05:54 PM)

and another thing! as I creep into 1942 and start to try and handle all available upgrades, I must ask. Is there some sort of 'master list' for IJ upgrades ? I mean specifically the dates which upgrades become available for each class of whatever ship?

rustysi -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/10/2018 7:15:34 PM)

Its been a while since I've tried it, as I've changed my method of use for the SSX's. IIRC the method to load the sub is to select the SSX first and if there's a 'mother boat' carrier present the option will be available. Try that.

Welcome to our nightmare.[:D] No list that I know of anywhere. There's a screen that will allow you to set all ship upgrade options to on. Once that's done there's another that you may view to see which ships are currently upgrade-able. Since I prefer to get them to a proper port before that date so that they may start their upgrade immediately, I don't bother with either.

dasboot1960 -> RE: "Continuing Chaos" - This is not an AAR (9/11/2018 9:16:32 PM)

Thank you rustysi! I think I'm with you on the upgrades, some of those 1/42 destroyers have been pressed into ASW though, we'll see
