Just copying the PM here for context so anyone else searching can find it: quote:
Hey apache85, Thanks for the reply! I really do appreciate the help. As far as I can tell, SOSUS doesn't work at all and doesn't pick up any contacts (no biologics either), despite there being a SOSUS Fixed Array right where my fleet starts! Do you think this scenario was meant to be played without being able to use SOSUS for submarine detection? I have seen some videos on YouTube where SOSUS was working, so I am confused about this. Anyhow, here is the link. Thanks in advance! - PhyseterCatodon Looking at the save file all the enemy submarines are currently 'masked' from the 3 SOSUS arrays by noisier contacts, be they shipping or otherwise. The sonar model has changed since this scenario was designed and released, which would explain seeing different results on YouTube videos etc. So this is working as it should; the changes to the sonar model have made the way sonar works more realistic but have probably increased the difficulty a touch. Some gameplay tips: Make use of your shipborne and land-based ASW aircraft to screen your surface groups Configure your formations to have good ASW ships 'sprint and drift' at or beyond the first convergence zone to detect enemy subs before they can get close to your high-value units (carriers etc) The US amphibious taskgroup has some ships with pretty good sonar, if you're having lots of trouble I would recommend splitting off the ships with the best sonar and have them move ahead of the other groups to detect subs early Take your time, you have 4 full days to get to the objectives. If you need to go slower or zig-zag your course to avoid subs, you have plenty of time to do so
