TomTry -> Korean tutorial: Rate of advance question (8/10/2018 10:19:14 PM)

Hi all,

I'm just getting into TOAW IV and loving it but have a question about rate of advance when playing the Korean tutorial as North Korea.

I know that in reality the North Koreans were all the way down in Masan, and nearly overrunning Pusan, by the end of August 1950 but when I play as North Korean I tend to get down to just above Taejon before I run into waves of US reinforcements arrive and I have to dig in to try and repair my supply lines. By the first week in September I'm on the back foot and trying to hold my lines whilst waiting for Chinese reinforcements.

Is this a fair place to be or am I totally failing to make ground as quickly as I should?

Thanks,

Tom

I am also playing that scenario right now and I find myself in a similar situation to yours. I definitely didn't manage to get anywhere near Pusan before the Americans came, and now my situation in-game necessitates a retreat back towards the 38th parallel.
I am also pretty new to the game, I only played 3 small scenarios before this one. I think the failure to advance as far as historically occurred is at least partly a result of the design of the scenario itself I think, though I don't doubt that my own strategy probably contributed to that too.

Korea '50-'51 is one of my favorite scenario's and I've been through it a couple of times as both sides and I think you have to stick to the roads and use the rails when you can and don't get too wrapped up in battles, just push the resistance to the side, off the roads, and leave some babysitters for them and keep pushing. I'll definately have to do an AAR about this.
