adamlevine -> Your favorite Matrix Games (8/15/2018 7:48:28 AM)

I've been looking into PC wargaming but i have no idea where to start. This is one company that i've seen suggested here so i went to look at their games and they have a lot.

I was wondering what are some of your favorite games that you've played from this company(or ones that aren't made by them that you really like.)

thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum, it all depends on how new you are to war gaming, as most war games will fit into 3 sorts, easy ones, eg easy to learn and easy to play, with basic rules and sometimes quite an easy format and layout and mostly smaller maps, then intermediate level, where the amount of unit maybe more and the level of rules and skill needed are somewhat higher, then the next level is split into hard and groghead, for different reasons, maybe the maps are epic and so it the rules and manual, plus the time and effort needed to learn with a huge amount of counters etc and play maybe a larger leap from the previous level.

Tell me which game you play the most and I'll tell you which game to buy at Matrix.[:)]

Steel Panthers World At War-SPWAW

And its free.

It covers every theater/battle and every single island invasion in the Pacific. Over 400 scenarios and around 10 campaign games. It is a turn based tactical game with scenarios ranging from an hour, up to several days.

It has every gun, vehicle, ship (cannon), armor, artillery, units and bunkers/pillbox used in WW2.

As they used to say about John Maddens football, it's in the game.

Advanced Tactics Gold, easy to learn hard to master. Vibrant mod community so always something new just around the corner. Is any size you want from small to huge. Has good random generator and numerous scenarios to chose from.

War in the Pacific: AE is by far the best game on these forums.

Red2112 -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/16/2018 11:43:01 AM)

My favs lately...

- Tigers On The Hunt

- Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm

- Decisive Campaigns series

- Piercing Fortress Europe

The Operational Art of War 4 - Wide range of battles over many different eras. Not too hard to play once you learn the system. Nice looking counters.

Panzer Corps - Easy operational wargame. Covers WW2 battles. Realistic 3d icons.

"War in the Pacific: AE is by far the best game on these forums. " I love this game also. Also like your Dali avatar [;)]

"Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm

- Decisive Campaigns series ; Mainly BARBAROSSA [8D]

- Piercing Fortress Europe "

also agree with these 3 also

looking forward to Rome aggressors coming up soon

Commander : The Great War

Strategic Command : War in Europe

I've been on a strategic warfare kick as of late and these 2 titles really hit the mark for me ....

I'm also starting to like Pride of Nations - the idea of being an evil Imperialist and taking over smaller countries scratches my maniacal tyrant itch ...

wodin -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/16/2018 10:54:47 PM)

DC Barbarossa
Command Ops
WW1 Gold
Flashpoint Campaigns

(Next two games never actually made it, well still hope for one..but Matrix Games I looked forward to more than most but haven't seen light of day but if made I'm sure would be on this list are, Combat Leader and Combined Arms)

Looking forward to Armoured Brigade and Steel Panthers 2!!

True, but the learning curve is a bit steep...

Steel Panthers Mega Campaigns for obvious reasons (I was part of Wild Bill's Screaming Eagles team).

Battle Academy is a given.
Panzer Corps because it is just so playable.
I'm thinking that I should be playing a massive amount more of Advanced Tactics.
TOAW, for being like every board game I ever owned.

I have games that are acknowledged greats, but, I don't have the hours in with them all the same.

My buddy once bought Fire in the East, we never played it. Thus it doesn't matter how great it is, if we never could play it.

Agathosdaimon -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/18/2018 8:52:05 AM)

all the Napoleonic games from Matrix are top notch i think with SOW Waterloo, Victory and Glory Campaigns on the Danube at the top, even the very old one La Grande Armee at Austerlitz! also though Horse and Musket and For Liberty

also dont forget Matrix has Harpoon and this Harpoon version contains pretty much every version of Harpoon in it too

The problem with WitP, that I've found anyway, is that once you really get into it you find your desire to play anything else largely disappears [:D]

So many good strategy games out there, I really want to get into the Tiller games for instance or War in the West, but I find it impossible to drag myself away from WitP for any length of time [&o]

SuluSea -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/21/2018 12:48:09 AM)

I don't have time to play war games any longer because I've received a higher calling but WITP AE is the best game ever produced by any developer..IMO

Thanks
Rick

Should we be able to use WP rounds to explain the deadly effects of chemtrails, too? [:D]

IslandInland -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/21/2018 9:35:16 PM)

Gary Grigsby's War In The East/West are my favourite Matrix games.

kevinkins -> RE: Your favorite Matrix Games (8/21/2018 10:58:42 PM)

Command is #1 for a difficulty and you can design scenarios surrounding current events/geopolitics.

Pike and Shot #2 for its ease of play and unique time frame

Flashpoint Campaigns #3 for its potential (wego platoon). I have been begging for a WW2 version for several years now. The team would make a fortune as I don't think there is a wego at that scale (i.e. not squad level aka CM).
