Zathred -> [NO REPRO] Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (8/22/2018 4:34:58 PM)

The update released through Steam today (22-Aug-18) has older DBs for both DB3K (v427) and CW (v425) tagged with the latest file dates. This results in the game using these (very) old DBs when running a scenario update to "latest" DB and thus lots of missing unit errors. Successful updates in fact end up being downgrades to the older DB.

Work-around is to delete the latest versions of the two DB files (DB3K_475.db3, CWDB_474.db3) and tell Steam to verify the integrity of the game files to cause them to be downloaded and re-created with the latest timestamp.

The developers might also wish to review the current flawed approach to identifying the latest DB version.

Hi,

We are testing this now with the current Steam release and are unable to reproduce your issue.

Both the DB3Kv427 and CWDBv425 files have the date of Feb-16, 2018. When attempting to migrate a DB3K scenario to the most recent DB version, the DB3Kv475 is correctly identified as the desired destination.

I can only guess that a transient fault replaced the older DB version files in your local cache or accidentally "touched" them with a current date, and that afterwards they were replaced by re-applying the update as you described.

Please let us know if this issue re-appears in the future. Thanks!

This happened on two separate installations on a laptop and a desktop. Both installations were updated about mid-day BST today and both had the bad file dates. Since I applied the fix as above it's all been ok on both machines.

One could be random chance, two seems less likely...

I encountered the same problem, which I solved on my side by renaming the DB3K_427 and CWDB_425 files (see DB4 image).

Same issue being reported by another user on the Steam CMANO tech support board.

I would post a link to the specific item but am not allowed :-(

There is clearly a problem. Please look at this again. Thanks.

worked flawlessly for me,

as always with steam,

log out and close steam, by clearing cache and cookies as per guides, then clear out downloads, which also removes saved password, which is fine, as long as you know it, when steam reboots, re type your user name and password and try again

You can browse games on Steam in your regular desktop browser, or in the Steam desktop client. The Steam desktop client has a built-in browser that can show you details for a game. The details are more coherent in the Steam client so it makes sense that people prefer to use it over a desktop browser. If nothing else, purchasing a game is easier with the client. There’s just one problem; Steam doesn’t automatically clear its web browser cache. This in turn eventually leads to the Steam client lagging. On the surface of it, there’s no reason for Steam to lag but the browser cache is the underlying cause. To fix the lag, you have to clear the Steam web browser cache.

Steam has a built-in option for clearing the web browser cache. You can use it to clear the Steam web browser cache whenever it begins to lag, or you can automate it. We’re going to show you how to do both.

then

doing this every time you have any issue, or like me once a week or so, makes steam refresh and also sorted out any caching issue with old data being stored, being cleared and ready for new.

2 items to remember, steam isn't one place one server, it's many, so depending on where you live and what server you login into, events happen at different times, as one update gets cached it update and goes around and updates all the others.

not clearing the cache and cookies over time can lead to loads of wasted space and an increased size of the steam install folder plus other issues with some downloads not coming down at all or being late.

I had the same problem. The method described by zakblood doesn't work, you have to do what the OP says in the first post.

Zaslon -> RE: Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (9/20/2018 12:35:32 PM)

I had the same problem too.
I renamed both DB.

zakblood -> RE: Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (9/20/2018 12:40:02 PM)

again works fine for me, so also can't reproduce what some are seeing or getting[:(]

Grazyn -> RE: Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (9/20/2018 5:33:56 PM)

Maybe it was caused by manually installing the latest patch when it was released here on the forums, then when the patch went live on steam a few weeks later it synched the new files but something went wrong.

zakblood -> RE: Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (9/20/2018 5:36:04 PM)

the latest patch on here, wasn't for the steam release and was mentioned in the forum tbh

Grazyn -> RE: Steam update 22-Aug-18: DB dates wrong (9/21/2018 11:07:52 AM)

The are 2 threads about 998.10. The latest, topped one with the autoinstaller is indeed non-steam only (can't even be installed on a steam version) but the first one had a patch that worked on both versions.

I've been manually installing the latest patches when they're posted here over my Steam version for a while now and I've never had a problem with that. I don't think I'm the only one who does that, devs themselves said in the past that those patches can be usually installed over a steam version without issues. Here for example they advise you to try the patch if you're facing issues resolved by it
