A note on Soviet reporting

The authors of the account you are reading are given the best information on Axis activities and deployments. However so as to not aid our opponents Soviet deployments are subject to passive and active dezinformatsiya.

The Allied commander will give his observations on the war thus far as soon as his tears stop long enough to let the ink dry on his war diary.

China: An utter disaster for the Chinese. They have yet to figure out a way to halt the Japanese armored spearheads.
France: The panzers are rolling now, and I suspect France will also not be able to stop the armored spearheads.
Britain: Pouring supplies, Spitfires and moral support into France (and breaking out the "Be Fluent in German" tutorials.
US: Patiently waiting to help save the world, or what is left of it when their isolationism ends.

Sept. 1938

The German advance has pushed the front 100km from Paris. A massive air battle outside of Calais equal casualties on both sides, but it was enough for German bombers to decimate Franch tanks. The proceeding assault was a rousing victory for German forces. Unfortunately, despite strong opposition from German Generals, High command demanded that the battle to be followed up with an assault on Calais itself. German forces were repulsed with severe losses.

Sept. 1938

In the East, outside of Cluj there was a massive tank battle between Soviet and German forces. German forces prevailed and due to the hard lesson of the West, they wisely didn't follow up the attack into the mountains.

September 1938

Soviet forces have now destroyed 515 R2 at a cost of 574 R2. We are gaining experience each month. As for losses, well : "War means fighting, and fighting means killing"

Oct. 1938

Calais has fallen into German hands and massive amounts of artillery were destroyed outside of Reims. But October brought the Luftwaffe's first major defeat. Lack of recon aircraft had lightly guarded bombers make a run outside of Paris on a heavy tank column. Overly aggressive once again, the price was very high. Production has now shifted into overdrive to replace the losses.

Oct. 1938

In the east, Germany pulled back in the north into better defensive positions. After a tremendous artillery barrage, the mountains south of Cluj were cleared with heavy Soviet losses for a German advance.

Oct. 1938

Japan saw its finest month of the war. Extremely heavy casualties were inflicted on Chinese forces. The Chinese air force was caught undefended after Japanese tanks broke through the front lines and then seized Sian. A large air fleet was destroyed on the runway. The breakthrough also caught a staff division, destroying most of it, and nearly cut off the supply center east of Sian.

Oct 1938

Substantial casualties were inflicted on Soviet forces as well. An elite marine division supported by the army attacked an armored column after an air attack from carriers and artillery barrage from the mountains.

Here my German complete bill... losing in the air battle 2/3... maybe more... and taking a sizable hit in infantry... German citizens are starting to think maybe war isn't such a good idea... and neither are the poor horses.

December, and good riddance to 1938!

Here you can see the Japanese putting on heavy pressure from the south and east.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938v3 ACQ (10/2/2018 1:46:39 PM)

Dec 1938

Germany has inflicted horrendous casualties over November and December even though their losses have been substantial. Paris is close to being surrounded and ever-growing forces in the east are marshaling for an advance. Cold weather and mountainous terrain have slowed the German advance in Romania... and as have the loss of Italian forces that are heading to Africa due British attacks on Libya. The Luftwaffe has been told that new state of the art aircraft will soon be at their disposal. The same being told among German generals of a large upgrade in their panzer divisions. High Command has promised the people of Germany that 1939 will bring great honor and great victories.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938v3 ACQ (10/3/2018 4:07:12 AM)

Jan. 1939

The promises by the German High Command that great victories would come in 1939 were realized on both fronts. Paris has fallen into the hands Germany and the carnage was high for the French and British defender. So German estimates are that a third of the British air force was destroyed on the ground in the audacious assault.

Jan 1939

A strong point in the Romanian mountains guarded columns of Soviet tanks was broken and driven back. Air battles raged up and down the front. Though brave, Soviet pilots had the inferior technology and their superiority of numbers wasn't enough to win the day. Also, Yugoslavia has joined Axis. Now a route into Romania, free of mountains, is now open to the axis advance.

January 1939

The Soviets have pulled back on both fronts.

We need to stop the Axis, but their high morale and experience, are a negative for us.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938v3 ACQ (10/5/2018 2:14:04 AM)

Feb. 1939

The Germany and Japan have made slow advances this month, inflicting and suffering light casualties. Italy, on the other hand, has been handed a stinging defeat in Africa and has been driven back. Reinforcements are flooding in, but it may be too few too late. Axis is desperate to see snow leave the ground so they can make rapid advances.

Mar. 1939

The Allies have struck back. The skies along the French coast are filled with constant dogfights. Neither side has the advantage and both sides are suffering heavy casualties. French forces to massive losses trying to defend the Seine River. Germany fought its way to the other side and is massing for a push into Frances low lands. In the east, Germann and Hungarian forces to back Romanian oil fields and made strides in pushing the front forward. A Soviet infantry Corp was caught behind the line and is encircled. The brave but foolish soldiers wouldn't accept surrender and will likely try and fight their way out. In Africa, British forces cut Italians resistance like a scythe. Many Italians forces fled in sea-bound transports back to Italy. A whole Corp was left behind for surrender or destruction. Italy was woefully unprepared for the surprise attack of Britsh and French forces. They should have been prepared... the price for their ignorance will be steep and the loss of all Africa.

March 1939

The Axis forces are powerful.

Our brave friends the Finns have joined us a allies. Although Romania is a very long way aways the Finns recognized the Axis threat.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938v3 ACQ (10/14/2018 7:26:26 PM)

Apr. 1939

Axis continues to reap huge casualties on the allies, but again another month's recruits are used to replace the lost German forces. Another French city was taken and many subs sank by German and Italian forces... but the sea is still littered with vast Allied fleets. German High Command is demanding that the generals end this slog and bring big gains to Germany. New crack German soldiers have been trained and shipped to the front. With the United States destined to enter the war, time is not on Germany's side.

In the East Japan and Russia are in a meat grinder, but gains in China offer hope that one enemy may be on the verge of falling.

3 April 1941 [Oops, this must be wishful thinking! It is 1939]

The Soviet Union is in a vicious war. It looks like the Axis is just going to keep coming. Here is the borders in Europe.

A bloody war indeed, I wonder if you will try some kind of cooperation with the allies. The Chinese could help too, they have huge manpower reserves. Of course a strong alliance with the allies mean you gave up any chance to win and now is fighting for survival, but I donīt know how you can survive a two front war with both Japan and Germany.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938v3 ACQ (10/21/2018 10:59:55 PM)

May 1939

The loss of Finland due to the political machination of the Soviets, Germany has decided Poland can't be trusted not to side with the allies and war has been declared on Poland. German force took back Danzig and cut a wide swath into the center of Poland from the North. Also, in Southern Poland, a newly formed mechanized army under the control of Manstein advanced with little opposition.

May 1939

The war is brutal in Romania but progress is being made. A second front has opened into Russia. France is a crawl as well, but French casualties were high.

In the East, war is brutal a whole corp was lost to Soviet forces. Japan' counter-attack exacted nearly as many casualties on Russian troops. New forces are pouring to fill the ranks. In China, two more Chinese cities fell into Japanese control.

Italy was trounced in Africa and Germany won't provide help. A full evacuation was finished by the end of May.

29 May 1939

The Soviet Union is faced with a massive assault through Poland. We have offered alliances to all Allied nations, and they all accepted.

We have two active fronts against Germany-Italy in the west, and Japan in the east. We are very hard pressed on both.

Prime campaigning weather is coming.
