Saulust -> Are Soviet Airborne Corps HQ good places to attach extra Divisions? (10/11/2018 10:51:17 AM)

I was wondering if it is a good idea to actually attach other kinds of extra Soviet Divisions to heave off Ca small amount of Command Capacity, since with only 3 Airborne Brigades in them, they have some CC room to spare.

Good idea or not? Are there any constraints or detrimental effects for placing regular Soviet Divisions into them, especially if you plan to keep them in HQ range etc, or will it be just fine to?

On T21 they have 5 points spare CC each, so 2 Divisions and a brigade each for the five of them starting on the map, plus 5 more AB Corps arriving on T27... I think it would be good to attach what I can up to the limit just to remove penalties elsewhere.

I know others certainly do this. In the 8MP team game the Soviet side turned them into mobile/armoured corps with new leaders to match - see the Soviet AAR. The Germans did have the Herman Goring parachute tank corps - so why not?

Cheers, thanks Telemecus I'll take a another good look at the 8MP team game although I think I would much rather use these Airborne HQs in lieu of extra Cavalry Corps along side the 3 of those for handling my very far flung advancing Cavalry screen... in stead of having the Cossacks tenuously attached to Army HQs! I liked the idea of throwing tanks off the back of transport planes with parachutes. But if not that I guess parachuting Cossacks is pretty good too! [:D]

Emphatically yes. When the Red Army gets built out, there are not enough slots in Army HQ's for all the units you get. Also, during the period that Front HQ's can hold 72 CU and Armies can have 21, three Armies plus an Airborne Corps gives you a fully built out Front. Very convenient.

Also, in 1941 you have a number of really good generals who can only command corps. Your Airborne Corps HQ's might end up being the go-to guys to lead major attacks.

Yes, yes I see 3 regular Cav Corps, 5 (+5 more arriving T27) Airborne/extra Corps plus spare flipped Romanian Cav Corps is plenty to fill out a scheme of 3 21 Armys & an 8 Command Capacity point Corps per Soviet Front seems like a good target, thanks for the tip Dr King, cheerio. [8D]

I use them later on to put artillery divisions

I've no idea how they where used in real life but some of the suggestions here seem a little gamey, but if you're happy and whoever your playing against is, fine.

in the next version the airbore corps hq will disband at the end of 1942.
The corps with usually 3 brigades were either reformed into (Guards) Rifle divs or in later 1942 airborne divs.

I know that CAV Corps HQ's are disbanded since this just happened in my game. It is nice to know about the Airborne HQ.

BTW when is the next version if you will?

Thank you in advance.

The airborne hq's are useful in 1942 when the red army is short of cc. I form them into reserves directly under Stavka. They are positioned as last line defence where breakthroughs are threatened, on or very near rail hexes where they can be railed fast when needed. These corps are often the first reinforcements to arrive at the scene in an emergency.

Airborne Corps HQ disband will be via data change, not automatic.
There's no time set for next version, due to several changes to sappers it will take some time for internal test to ensure the balance is not dramatically changed.
Plus it includes some minor fixes like rear gun on IL-2KR, addition of Marder I and Panzerjäger 35R(f), changes to soviet AA units including proper composition/placement of the huge and nealy huge regiments while making them non-producible (thanks to Dreamslayer et al for info), rebuilding several soviet HQ types, fixing the reinforcing Shock Army in StoB/Winter

Hopefully also the national reserve fatigue bug? :)

Do airborne HQs have any special bonuses - like Panzer HQs and similar others on the Soviet side?
