Looks like a very nice scenario. Just opened it up and can offer a couple very nitpicky points before I dive in. All provided in the spirit of helpfulness and not critiques:

Briefing: Very nice, complete and well crafted. A couple points:
-The Reagan is CVN 76 (not 56, typo I believe)
-The note regarding the F-22s etc is in there twice
-'...clear that these warning have not...' warning should be plural
-'...unidentified contacts or contacts not believed...' the first contact should be singular

Naming:
-some ships have the pennant number some do not
-the three PC 1 class could be named https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone-class_patrol_ship to do this in a port you need to right click on the unit name
-this website is useful for determining which ships would be forward deployed with the Reagan https://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/Pages/PacificTheaterShips.aspx

Air group: the Reagan's air group can be found here: http://www.gonavy.jp/CVW-NF6f.html
-this link will help with the naming, and there is an F-18E sqn missing (12 each) - which is fine but a note in the brief to identify why may be helpful
-the HSC sqn with MH-60S (8 a/c) is also missing and they would be ideal for this type of mission set
-the HSM sqn with MH-60R (11 a/c) Sqn will have about 5-6 on the CV and the rest spread around the escort
-I find this wiki very useful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_air_wing#Current_Carrier_Air_Wing
-determining the air wing on the Amphibs is a bit of a trick sometimes and you can really play around with them, but I often start with news releases: https://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/lhd1/Pages/default.aspx

Ok enough nitpicking, I'll jump in and give it a play now.

Thanks for building this.

looking at this.... like it much better so far....

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario for testing Operation Sapphire Fury (10/30/2018 2:17:49 PM)

A few hours in and things are going well.

First priority was Air superiority. Managed to take down 8x J-31 and 6x J-15 by putting out some 4th Gen ftrs as bait and ambushing with F-35s. Lost an F-16 and and two F-18 this way but a fair exchange I think

Next was SEAD, F-16s with SDBs coming at the S-300s from behind mountains did the trick

Final stage of the prep phase didn't go as well as it could have. Since I don't play the ultra modern scenarios that often I forgot about the Machine-gun like endless Chinese SAMs! I was trying to put an end to any more naval aviation bothering my operations but the TG shot down my entire wave of TLAM MMs! Bugger[sm=sterb020.gif]. However, a couple P-8s coming in from Anderson AB and re-basing to Clark came in from the NE and managed to get a SLAMER hit on Liaoning. Not much damage but no more fixed wing flew from the deck, only helos. Over the next couple hours first one more SLAM hit then finally three (of 12) more sank her.

Recommendation: An event that sends the TG back to base when the Liaoning takes significant damage (?25%?), they wouldn't be on a suicide mission and currently they are all just milling around in the Spratly Islands.

Great game so far, now I need to start working on sorting out the ground fight, and finding those subs that were advertised.

Thanks

B

Glad to hear things are going well.
I really appreciate you giving it a try. Hearing from you is great![:)]
When you said in your recommendation:
"An event that sends the TG back to base when the Liaoning takes significant damage...", i'm not sure what group or unit your referring to as "the TG"?

Dave

Whicker -> RE: New scenario for testing Operation Sapphire Fury (10/31/2018 3:37:22 AM)

I think he is saying the chinese carrier group - once the carrier is damaged it should probably go home rather than stick around and get killed. I think you can do that with the Doctrine settings - withdraw and redeploy, it would just need a home port. I think.

not sure if that would be set on the group or the carrier? carrier I would guess. Though it probably isn't a bad idea for all units to go home once x damage has occurred. They can redeploy if they are repaired in time.

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario for testing Operation Sapphire Fury (10/31/2018 10:09:14 AM)

Yes the Chinese carrier task group.

They will need a homeport, but the doctrine setting isn't good enough in this case. It deals with individual ships, which is good as well, but I think an event triggered by damage to the carrier and then a Lua action to send them all RTB, or simply puts them on another mission back near China.

Yes...I get it. I shall add that for sure.

I have uploaded a new file with all suggestions incorporated, including:

All Reagan's air group including MH-60S and MH-60R accounted for (Gunner98)
Standard CAP for F-18's replaced by Heavy AA loadout (Primarchx)
Chinese SAG now retreats when their CV is damaged beyond 25%. (Gunner98)

Moving this one to the ready scenarios posts.

Jazlizard -> RE: New scenario for testing Operation Sapphire Fury (11/8/2018 9:37:49 PM)

Any suggestions on how to deal with the J-31s ? Despite having an overwhelming number of radars deployed they still seem to be undetected until they fire their weapons and seemingly avoid 120D missiles entirely too easily while their PLs seem to take out US aircraft fairly consistently.

daveoreno -> RE: New scenario for testing Operation Sapphire Fury (11/8/2018 11:48:11 PM)

I think its natural to always try to establish air superiority first, especially since you know you will need to dominate the air space over top of Palawan. However, in this instance if you wait until your Aegis ships are closer to the island they will wreak havoc among the J-31's with their SM2's. (Might want to be careful and adjust your WRA to hang onto SM3's though;)

Other than that I just try to get them on the run. (once they are low on fuel they are going to have to head back to the carrier) That's when to pounce!

definitely hard to avoid taking some losses to the J-31's

Dave
