NikolaiEzhov -> How to change the Veteran/Untried status in Scenario Editor? (10/24/2018 2:06:33 PM)

The manual says there is a button to change that, but I just can't find it.

Hit 'U' to bring up the Unit Report, and on the bottom row of buttons its the 2nd from the far right.

But first you have to be in the Deployment Editor. And then the button icon used at Unit-level for setting veteran/untried is the same button icon as used at Formation-level for setting Proficiency. They really couldn't come up with another icon??

As said before, the Editor is a work in progress [it was being updated then work was stopped to move on to other things]. Plus, I have noticed that some buttons are used for multiple items, therefore I guess some of the button icons are kind of generic.

It is a Frankenstein's monster right now. A piece of this and a piece of that and none of it works well together. [:D]

I pity new people trying to figure out how it works. Having to individually go through a few thousand units changing the replacement priorities is a nightmare too. A pity you can't at least do it by formation.

I thought they were about to create a new Scenario Editor. Still, nothing happens after one-year release.

Generic is fine, I'm not asking for master craftsmanship here...but they really couldn't find/create more than a handful simple icons, so that they didn't use the same icon for totally different things on different screens? Kind of hard to understand, since one of the stated aims of this "new game" was to update the GUI...

You won't get any argument out of me concerning the efficiency of development and the seeming lack of common sense. Some of this stuff we have to take on ourselves, and over the years many have. It is sad that recently there has been a move towards reducing the ability of scenario and mod designers to tackle such issues. I've been working on those buttons as seen below. Some are easy to understand and can be left alone - arrow up and arrow down, check mark to exit. But others are not related to anything that is intuitive, so I am replacing them on my end with simple things like OOB, [W]eapons and [F]ormatios. One of the issues here is that with the new UI and Graphics there are now 24 Standardbuttons256 files [as opposed to 1 file in TOAW III] and there is no way of knowing which is used where. So it has been a real pain in the butt even to change the ones I have changed.

Something called "Steam" happened.

Good grief.

Those look great, and like quite an improvement.

Good grief.

Sorry, don't understand...are you suggesting that GUI issues like this don't matter for a game, or something else?

That's not entirely true.
