nukkxx5058 -> GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/28/2018 8:56:47 AM)

Hi, I'm a complete newb at ATG and GD1938 (but I played some DC-Barbarossa in the past) and I'd like to try to start a multiplayer game with GD1938v3.

Ideally, I would like to play with other newbies so that we all have the same kind of difficulties. We will be learning the game while playing.

If I understand well, a 3-player game would be a good choice.

- player 1 is Axis (GER/IT/JP)
- player 2 is Allies (FR/GB/US/CH)
- player 3 is Soviet Union (URSS)

I personally have no particular preference, any side will do for me. Just the fact that I do have quite a lot of free time so a time consuming side would be OK for me.

I would like players who commit to 'as fast as possible' turns so that we have a chance to advance in the game. No idea what it means concretely, but according to what I read from Chuck in the forum, a mid-game turn can easily take several hours to play so maybe we should commit to play a turn within the next 72 hours after receiving the file ? Of course, early game turns could/should be faster.

Also, everybody should commit themselves to continue playing even if they are badly losing :-) Playing pbem is a long term commitment and such a game can last for a year or more so be sure that you will be available and motivated long enough ...

So, any volunteers ?

Meanwhile, I'm playing solo the core game to train :-)

PS: comments welcome !

GL Nukkxx in finding players... the game is a great one! Glad you are giving it a try... load of WW2 fun, for sure.

Thanks :-) How could I not give it a try after the dithyrambic recommandation you made :-) But have to admit that it really looks good ! Can't wait to try it.

I put a dash of salesmen into it... but just a dash. V2 had its flaws but was still very good... V3 corrected them all and is about as good as you get in the genre.

Hmmm Newb to this scenario here ….some AT Gold exp against AI

No PBEM exp with this engine

Looking at player 3 option

Fired up scenario solo and went to USSR played minor war on Baltic. Looked at units.

Setting up production looks like a major 1st turn project. And no idea what to prioritize. But that is probably lack of experience.

Browsed the manual. Probably need to read some AARs

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/29/2018 5:49:01 PM)

Hey cool ! So you're the Soviet, done :-)
We will learn by playing, don't worry :-)
Let's wait for the third player. Stay tuned.

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/30/2018 7:56:23 AM)

One more player wanted !

Free slots are: Allies (FR/GB/US/CH) or Axis (GER/IT/JP).

comsolut -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/30/2018 1:05:13 PM)

Just a thought...maybe one experienced player as the axis who is willing to answer questions and guide us through the learning experience and bring two new players into the community would work as well?

Why not ? I have nothing against of course. Anyone's welcome ...

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/30/2018 1:45:08 PM)

Likey, an experienced German player might be too much. Maybe a Soviet player because they will need to be passive the longest (aside from the US)... Maybe you guy should be axis and allies. If not other exp player takes up the gauntlet, I will.

comsolut -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/30/2018 4:24:33 PM)

I have sort of done my prelim work as USSR. Run several months, played different cards like improve industry. Written out and made notes on all the starting units and production priority. Attacking the Baltic States to move units around and get a feel for the force composition.

Production of actual military units seems very low to me but again prob inexperience. Critical flow seems production to branching PP, supply, research, diplo, military units. Balancing those branches is critical.

I think the lack of historical focus will be a real challenge. I.E. not thinking traditional WWII alliances and areas of operation. Very sandbox sort of scenario but interesting.

Anyway, I'm set on playing USSR. I would feel overwhelmed otherwise.

The player pool sounds like it needs expanding and I'm trying to put a toe in the water.

Twotribes -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/30/2018 4:32:36 PM)

The big thing to remember as the soviets is that attacking early is dangerous since you have no major tech and poor combat odds. It is best to convince the Baltic states to join you or to lower their cohesion so low you can intimidate them. Be SURE if you attack that Germany is not the protector you are more likely to convince the Allies to make peace then the Germans.

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 2:32:35 AM)

It's fine however you want it com... just glad you Nukkxx are joining in. I'll play whatever you guys want... we'll give it a couple more days and then stick me with whatever nation you like... I'm fine with whatever

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 5:01:02 AM)

Cool ! Let's wait a bit more and when you guys decide we can start :-)

cpdeyoung -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 5:25:57 AM)

I nominate Quibbles for this game.

He is new, but with some painful lessons learned in the ACQ game.

I do not know if he is aware of the offer, or interested, but he is a really good guy, with a great attitude.

Chuck

Sounds good ! Hope he's available and willing to play.
Btw, what does ACQ mean ?

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 7:02:04 PM)

I tried, but he says he's booked up. I just don't want Nukxx and Com to get a slanted perspective. I think as Axis I might overwhelm early and by the time the game clicks it might be hard to bounce back... We could do a trial run for two years? But maybe another player will take the challenge on?

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 7:19:22 PM)

It's up to you. I don't mind waiting another couple of days. I'm still training in solo with ATG vanilla :-)
BTW I'm having a bad crash with ATG. Just posted in the tech support forum ...

cpdeyoung -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (10/31/2018 9:49:07 PM)

ACQ, I blush to reveal, stands for our handles "Armoured Lion", "cpdeyoung", and "Quibbles"

Chuck

Quibbles -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/1/2018 12:11:58 AM)

Hi all,

I'd love to play, but I have two games going right now along with an Axis Empires game and a standard ATG game. But when one of these games is finished, I'd love to join another!

Quibbles

:-)))))))))) [:)]
That's a good one :-)

Hey Quibbles, no problem amigo ! I perfectly understand. We will find a solution.
Sure we will play together one of these days ! :-)

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 4:26:13 PM)

Still nobody ? We just need a German player (or allies if you prefer ...)

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 4:28:01 PM)

I asked another vet to take axis so I could take one nation of allies... this would create balance. Do you guys want me to take Axis if it doesn't pan out?

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 4:40:57 PM)

As I said, it's really up to you guys ... ArmouredLion, you're the one with experience so tell us what you think.
Sure you would be a great German/axis ! If you have time and are willing to play, we will be honoured :-)

comsolut -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 4:44:27 PM)

+1

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 5:00:11 PM)

I'll let you know asap

ArmouredLion -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 10:10:54 PM)

Okay, Comsolut and Nukkxx... how does this sound:
Soviets: Com
Axis: CPDyoung
Allies: China, US, France Nukkxx
Allies Brits: Armoured Lion

Sound okay?

cpdeyoung -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/4/2018 10:44:31 PM)

I christen this game CCNA for our handles in order of play.

I will begin the game with these options now.

Fog of war, Passwords, and Historic US Isolationism.

Chuck

nukkxx5058 -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/5/2018 5:17:35 AM)

Sounds good to me guys !!

comsolut -> RE: GD1938 v3 - Any Newbies for a Game ? (11/5/2018 12:46:36 PM)

Looking forward to a fun learning experience.

Please provide the steps/procedure for pbem.

Also are we exchanging email addresses or using pm?

I have dropbox installed, if that is needed.

Remember I know ATGOLD but not pbem or this scenario.

Thanks in advance.
