thanks. i clicked on setup, but i dont see where it is installing...after a while a window appears asking for loading .gam file.

(until here is normal?)

then, I upload a file and error pops up

I forgot to say that you can install it anywhere; it should install wherever you put the file.

It is normal for it to ask for a *.gam file--it needs an xml scenario file to work with.

I will look again at the errors from those posts, I though I had fixed them. Which scenario did you try to open? I've only gotten the "invalid character" error in a scenario that had SS runes in the unit names, which are not valid characters in xml. Not sure yet how to fix that... If possible, please try with another scenario.

In general, if you encounter a problem with a scenario, please identify it, and if it is not a stock scenario that came with the game, send it to me if possible.

76mm -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:02:53 PM)

I should also add that all of the testing I do is with finished scenarios--the ones provided with the game--because I don't have any unfinished scenarios. It is very possible that unfinished scenarios raise different problems, so if you are having problems with an unfinished scenario, send it to me if possible and I will try to fix it--if I can't replicate a problem then I can't fix it.

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:04:26 PM)

thanks a lot..but no way..i tried D21 scenario, but problem is before just after clicking on setup file, error appears... I will wait then, no problem, and great idea and work anyway.

I will look at the D21 scenario today, see if I encounter problems.

But I don't understand what problem you are having with the setup file? It sounds like it installed if it is asking for a *.gam file?

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:09:37 PM)

this is what i get. just after clicking on setup error..if i ignore i advance to force window but it is cut below, unreadable.

'' this character is the problem...maybe..but why it complains just after clicking on setup.exe file? it seems before to upload the scenario

i dont know how to attach screenshots here, but even i ignore previous errors and continue to upload scenario, the window is cut at the bottom, so the five selection fields and almost unreadable. do you know a way to enlarge the window?

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:31:46 PM)

it seems it keeps in memory the last uploaded scenario. now i click setup and previously uploaded fulda76 and it opens without errors.
However, the window is still cut at the bottom and button letters are cut by the middle or less.

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:33:31 PM)

in fulda76, formations IDs are grey so they cannot be changed. Then, how can i insert a Div inside an Army formation, so thee division is highlighted in the same hierarchy when selecting the army HQ?

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:37:04 PM)

it is cut in the lower part like #post 106

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:41:03 PM)

Transfer (Drag-and-Drop) Unit within Tree: Select unit in treeview, left click on unit and drag to formation to which it should be transferred, release mouse button. It will become the last unit in the selected formation.

im trying to drag, left click and move, but it is not trasnferred. :(

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:45:34 PM)

ok, i could drag "units" to formations, it works perfectly. The problem is that if I want to drag a division, which is defined as formation, inside an Army which is also a formation.

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:47:28 PM)

maybe changing unit name such as 276th Div -> 267th Div 8th Amy could work to give OOB flavour rather than actually redefining formation, what do yu think?

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/18/2019 12:50:50 PM)

still some WWII German scenarios, including D21 do not open, because of runes maybe.

OK, hard to be completely sure without a screenshot, but I think I understand what you mean. I've already made a change which will hopefully fix this...

No, you can select a *.gam file from anywhere.

I need to look at this, figure out what the mysterious character is...

As mentioned above, have already attempted some fixes, will be in the next version released.

Yes, once you select a *.gam file, TOAWxml keeps using it until you select a new file or it can no longer find the original file (deleted, etc.).

Sorry, don't understand. You cannot change Unit IDs because they are used by the game to track unit info. If you change a unit ID it will almost certainly break the scenario.

I don't know what you are trying to drag to where...see next point.

There are four hierarchical levels in TOAW: Force=>Formations=>Units=>Equipment. Those are all the levels that there are, and I can't add more. And each level has a different data structure.

So you can only transfer units so that they stay at the same level. In other words, if a scenario has the following levels: Army=>Corps=>Divisions=>Equipment, you can transfer divisions to a different corps, or equipment to a different division.

In a scenario with the indicated hierarchy, you cannot transfer a corps, because there is only one Army and so no where to transfer it to. You also cannot transfer equipment to a corps, or a division to the Army, because such transfers would not be at the same level.

I will look at D21, but it would be helpful to have names of other scenarios that don't open, so that I can take a look.

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/19/2019 11:39:09 AM)

thanks a lot for your feeback and replies. I will check other scenarios. [:)]

fulcrum28 -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/21/2019 10:16:25 AM)

I think FITE and Kharvov1943 also suffer from the sample problem. Did you already posted in 1.9 the version that addresses the strange character problem (possibly the runes)?

You know that I updated the latest Kharkov '43 scenario? If you want it, drop me a line. It's still in Beta; e.g. the German AI needs to be refined.

No; I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this now, but have not figured it out yet.

But I looked at Directive 21, and it has dozens of units and formations with invalid characters of some sort; here is one example:

Here is another:

76mm -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/21/2019 4:19:19 PM)

As mentioned, I am working on how to deal with these characters and expect to eventually figure something, but if want to start working on Directive 21 (or other affected scenarios) right now, you could replace the invalid characters with something else, and it should work.

I will also take a look at FITE and Kharkov 42. Note that most of the testing I do on TOAWxml is on East Front WWII scenarios, and I have not encountered this problem except in the scenarios mentioned by people in this thread.

larryfulkerson -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/23/2019 9:59:07 PM)

I just now downloaded the famous TOAW XML Editor, [I'm running WIN7] unzipped it into it's own folder and clicked on setup.exe and I got an error message and here it is:

I've gotten relatively good at programming/fixing specific issues but have no idea about these installation issues...

Larry, your message says "-Culture is not supported"... Which OS do you have installed?

If anyone with C# experience would be willing to help me figure out these installation issues it would be most appreciated...

I found this:

Re: Culture is not supported
I don't know how I missed this, but here's what I found that allowed me to resolve the issue.

In my application's settings, under "Publish" there's a "Application Files" option. Turns out, there were about 12 "cultures" listed, including the dje-NE culture which was throwing the error. I have Excluded them from the application under "Publish Status" and the issue is now resolved.

76mm -> RE: TOAW XML Editor (1/24/2019 2:35:28 PM)

Lobster, thanks for that; after some digging I also found that the dje culture was included, so I've now excluded it. Since I never included it in the first place, seems like a rather strange error to arise...

I'm getting close to fixing the invalid xml character problem, will post a revised version once that is finished.

I can't figure out how to do this. And I can't start the application to access it's menu because it won't install. I have no idea how you did what you did to fix it.

EDIT: I'm running Win7

You can't change it, it is in the programming environment.

Yes, in fact I have already created a new version that will *hopefully* fix this issue and the invalid XML character error which several people have encountered. Will try to compile and post it today.
