Here are the facts the spitfire was able as were other fighter planes. One major success that the British had was finding out the height at which the V1 flew – between 2000 and 3000 feet. The top speed of the V1 was also worked out – between 340 mph to 400 mph when it approached its target. The man put in charge of defending London – Air Marshall Roderic Hill – had a number of fighter planes at his disposal which were faster than the V1’s and could fly above the weapon before descending to attack it. The Spitfire XIV, the Mustang III, the Tempest V and the Mosquito could all do this – but they had a relatively small amount of time to do their work in. but like a lot of new's out atm, it's a fake, Such a shame this isn’t a genuine photo above. It’s a painting. Spitfires at a last resort could attempt this but wasn’t really necessary as the air interruption from the wing (pressure) could knock them off course anyway,... this is the only real photo of it happening in action, below, and not a great one at that [image]local://upfiles/43185/A6BBC9E8E4B44495BEA6A167836C4748.jpg[/image]
