Only $4.5 million.

What a bargain.

demonterico -> (6/12/2003 10:17:22 AM)

Oh god I want it.

Can anyone lend me the $4,500,000?

Von Rom -> (6/12/2003 10:54:48 AM)

If we negotiate it down to $3 million, and if we all kick in $400.00 each, I think we'd have enough to buy it.

And I think we have enough people to act as a crew.

Then all we would need is some tin-pot country to invade ;)

Yea, but there still is the issue of aircraft for the aircraft carrier.

Depending on your choice of suitable aircraft, that could be the expensive part.

Picky, picky, picky :D

Von Rom -> (6/12/2003 11:06:48 AM)

Although, we could put an ad in the paper:

"Wanted: experienced fighter pilots on an on-call basis. Must be willing to work for commission. Must provide own jet fighter."

Kinda has a nice ring to it :D

SoulBlazer -> (6/12/2003 11:13:30 AM)

Can anyone track down which carrier this is, and what class she is?

boomboom -> count me out (6/12/2003 11:19:17 AM)

I get seasick in the bay

HMS Vengeance, orginally. NAeL Minas Gerais in the Brazilian navy. And the Australians "borrowed" her in between.

Rick

smithmr -> (6/12/2003 11:25:46 AM)

Per the link on the site the carrier is the HMS Vengeance. The last remaining WWII built British Aircraft Carrier, Per the link. She was commissioned on 12/16/1944. see http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/vengeance/

SoulBlazer -> (6/12/2003 11:29:42 AM)

Crap, that's a WWII era carrier? What the heck are those good for these days? Target pratice? ;)

Heck, even we retired the last of the Midway class carriers in the late 80's!

Maybe we can find some WWII era planes that still fly and use this old carrier as a test bed to settle some UV/WITP arguments on sinking carriers. :D

"Yes, 8 Bettys CAN sink a carrier and I'll prove it!"
WHOOP! BOMB! FLAK! CRASH!
"Okay, maybe not."

:p

Luskan -> (6/12/2003 4:15:35 PM)

We just need to figure out how much it would cost us each, and how much it would cost for a full tank of fuel, and we can man the crew with matrix gamers.

Odin -> Jup... (6/12/2003 5:23:04 PM)

Lets buy it, and have some shakedown cruises from Lunga to Rabaul or so...after we´re able to use it i a perfect way, we can duell the next Nimitz class carrier floating around:D

Nasrullah -> (6/13/2003 4:01:35 AM)

The crew of 1300 is included in the sale. I say we get the boat,
buy a letter of marque, and live as pirates. My childhood dream.

Arrgh, matey. . .

If they throw in a full tank of gas, 1300 eye patches and a dozen parrots, I think we'll have a deal. . .

Should be quite a hit with the ladies. . . ;)

And imagine the bowling lanes you could place on deck. . .

Von Rom -> (6/13/2003 4:35:07 AM)

I can imagine the conversation:

Lady: Sooo, where do you live?

Matrix Gamer: On a World War Two aircraft carrier.

Lady: Oh? Do you fly one of those BIG impressive jets?

Matrix Gamer: Nah. It doesn't have any planes.

Lady: What do you do with the carrier?

Matrix Gamer: Me and the boys just sail around in it playing pirates and get tanked on Friday nights.

Lady: Pirates???

Matrix Gamer: Yup. Got a cool patch too. Wanna see?

crsutton -> (6/13/2003 11:07:56 AM)

I'm in, but only if I get to drive.

demonterico -> (6/13/2003 1:07:58 PM)
Yea, but there still is the issue of aircraft for the aircraft carrier.
Hey the used carlot down the road picked up a MIG from the Russians for $50,000. With 6 MIGs and a carrier there must be dozens of countries we could conquer.

Chiteng -> (6/13/2003 1:15:47 PM)

Looks British to me =P

Nasrullah -> (6/15/2003 9:33:02 AM)

We can arm it with NASA Shuttles (cheap soon); the catapult and potatoes will work for close-in engagements.

Snigbert -> (6/15/2003 9:59:46 AM)

I wouldnt be surprised if a private organization bought it as a floating museum.

Or perhaps someone will buy it and sell it for scrap metal, I wonder what it would be worth...

I'm going to call my bank and ask what the monthly payments are on a boat loan for 4,500,000.

Nasrullah -> (6/15/2003 10:18:08 AM)

Someone in England had exactly that idea. The "Save HMS Vengeance Society" or some such. The deal fell through (lack of cash). If we just sit tight and play coy we can get this ultimate party boat for a song.

Luskan -> (6/15/2003 11:08:33 AM)

I got to fly a professional space shuttle simulator once. The thing is basically a flying anvil. Landing it on a CV would result in disaster for the CV as well as the shuttle.

As for taking a shuttle off a CV deck - Bags not!!!!!

Best jobs on the HMLS (His Majesty Luskan's Ship) Vengeance would therefore either be LSO, CAG, or CO.

As CO I'd re introduce walking the plank, keelhauling and capital punishment for all PBEM game quitters!

Nasrullah -> (6/15/2003 11:18:10 AM)

I was hoping the space shuttles might have better flying characteristics than their simulators. Maybe a simulator with buffalo wings might work. Either way, slinging one of the monsters from the catapult ought to discourage boarders.

Chiteng -> (6/15/2003 11:21:47 AM)

Sell it to the Chinese. They been looking for one of those

demonterico -> (6/15/2003 1:24:15 PM)

Hey I just had another great idea. We could sail HMDS ( His Majesty Dave's Ship) Vengeance over to the PI and take on an all girl crew. We could even dress them up in those school girl sailor suits. You know, this could be the best idea I've had all year. But aah, don't tell my wife, okay.:cool:

Air power alone will not conquer anything - you need boots on the ground. So let's convert her into an LPH with a few Helos and a MEU (Matrix Expeditionary Unit) :D .

Caltone -> (6/16/2003 12:28:46 AM)

If we all pitched in, we could recoup some of our investment if we did the occasional fishing charter. Should hold plenty of paying passengers.

mogami -> Casino (6/16/2003 12:38:45 AM)

Hi, Better to just clear out the hanger deck and make it a Casino with dancing on the flight deck. Set her on cement Blocks in some nice harbor. Install a couple hundred staterooms and you have a Hotel Casino.
