Hi,
I have been collecting a few games and I was wondering if any of you visit other sites on board games and the solitaire variety. I visited boardgamegeek and a few others.
Just curious if anyone has some favorites with articles.

I did look at some of the solitaire games at white dog
http://www.whitedoggames.com/solitaire-games

However, no link on prices or anything else. Has anyone purchased from them? I usually buy from Amazon

One good site you might find worthwhile is Legion Wargames

http://www.legionwargames.com/

They do some decent solitaire titles

I have "Target for Today" -which covers the US bombing campaign in Europe in WW2. Its an upgrade of an old classic "B17 Queen of the Skies"
I also have "Picket Duty" - where you command a US destroyer and try to survive kamikaze attacks.

Solitaire board games as applied to 'wargames' is a hard target.

Over the years, I've seen a lot.

My top pick is Patton's Best if you desire tactical and ground operations.
It's not new, has incredible components though. Likely as hard to find as anything else marketed since then though.

jack54 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/13/2018 5:27:46 PM)

As far as Boardgame sites I almost always use Board-game geek or check Youtube.

I have purchased Vietnam Solitaire, and Ben Madison's British War Trilogy (Don't Tread on Me, N: The Napoleonic Wars, and Mrs. Thatcher's War,) All direct from White Dog Games. I never had any Problems. Each game page has a pull down menu with various purchase options I.E. Domestic, International, Boxed, Folio or PnP. A little pricy like most board games IMHO but the price includes shipping

Just to warn you in case you haven't tried one of these games they are Area based, with procedural turns, lot's of die rolling and IMHO a great narrative but 'No' hexes or tactical maneuvers. They're, also, not meant to be historic simulations.

I am really looking forward to Ben Madison's game on Rhodesia's War, just have to justify the $$.

I sold Pattons Best a few years ago, thanks for the info

demyansk -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/13/2018 10:25:32 PM)

Jack, thanks as well for the info, for some reason on my computer it didn't show the prices. Are the games more interesting than the pc?

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/13/2018 10:43:54 PM)

Imo not really more interesting but sometimes I like to get away from the screen. I find rolling dice and looking at charts relaxing. Yet I still do 90% of my gaming on the pc.

wodin -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/14/2018 11:54:41 AM)

DVG games are a must!

demyansk -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/14/2018 8:43:16 PM)

Cool info

Skeleton -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/15/2018 9:30:06 AM)

For the last few years I have retreated from playing pc games and gotten back into board games. There are a number of really excellent solo games available. DVG as stated and here are a few more;

Red2112 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/15/2018 10:59:32 AM)

I would add the following as "solitaire exclusively"...

- Fields of Fire 2nd edition.
- Enemy Coast Ahead series (Doolittle Tokyo raid ect).
- Lock N Load Tactical with the solo module.

I still think itīs best to play normal games in a hot-seat mode, if thereīs no hidden info in the system. Systems with "chit-pull" work pretty good for hot-seat gameplay.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/15/2018 1:10:41 PM)

Dvg puts out some great solo stuff.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/15/2018 1:15:07 PM)

The system is solo friendly playing both sides. Command system works well enough. Monthly turns, 23 miles to a hex and two maps setup. A must buy if your into the civil war.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (11/15/2018 2:28:56 PM)

I've played Raid on St. Nazaire. A great game. The battle of Britain I've never played. Unconditional Surrender I have but haven't played yet. Right now I'am bouncing back and forth between-Across a Deadly field and Sails of Glory. Both miniatures systems. Across a Deadly Field is on the table now.[:D]

I think you forgot to mention which game [:D]

and I forgot to mention Open Fire. Was sort of a follow up of the famous "Ambush", except this was from VG...

I had Pattons Best and St Nazaire but sold them, why? Stupid but I kept Ambush. Now, I have 10-12 games, never played, computer gets in the way

Tokyo Express: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1681/tokyo-express

Great game but might be hard to find unused. Still have my copy and played it recently.

Hentzau -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (12/2/2018 1:07:07 AM)

A new art print and play version of Carrier from Victory Games 1990 is available from GJK who has done some beautiful mods for some Matrix Game products such as his map for Guns of August.

I'm selling PDF's of my kit for $35. I've heard from Jon Southard and I have his "blessing" on it. The kit includes everything needed for the game, my redrawn map (enlarged hexes, new design), all the counters plus extras (5/8", new look), charts (redrawn and organized as a booklet), and rules (including errata and color counter samples which clears up the common confusion of what the different colored chits are for). I've found that www.posterninja.com has very reasonable printing options for the map and there's a number of tutorials for mounting your own counters (and I'd be happy to share my "technique" as well).

pzgndr -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (12/2/2018 12:27:34 PM)

I've had a couple of goes with N: Napoleonic Wars, a Ben Madison game designed for solitaire play. Pretty good, but a bit tedious having to look up stuff all the time. Something like this would be a great candidate for a computer version, to automate all of the look-ups.

rocketman71 -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (12/2/2018 8:56:35 PM)

IMO alot of solitaire board games are prime candidates for PC conversion. All the art is already done. There is no need to program an AI as the game system is in place. The game system is also tried and tested. I also think it is a necessary way to go to get younger generations into wargaming.

wodin -> RE: Solitaire Board Games (12/3/2018 10:24:24 PM)

Just bought Ambush from a seller at BGG. Still waiting for delivery but can't wait. Also bought 2nd edition Fields of Fire for great price like new from seller at BGG, rebuying game I sold during recent tough times.
