De Savage -> Japan SEAD cabability (11/13/2018 7:11:30 AM)

I'm trying to create SEAD mission for Japan Defence Force, but it seems it lacks most of the land attack missiles. Submarines Harpoons or JDAM bombs from F-35 (or older F-2) could do it. But are there any other weapons available? It seems taking out any SAM unit is a major pain for Japan. Any advices, I'm not that familar with Japanise cababilities.

Japan is somewhat limited in their offensive weapons (which SEAD would probably align with) due to Article 9 of their constitution.

You never know, there might be a community scenario in the pipeline that highlights this [:D]

I believe KC45 is working hard for digging out all the potentials of JSDF, with his update requests.

Otherwise the 2018+ scenarios for Japan will be in serious disadvantage.

Article 9 aside, if players are interested in commanding a hypothetical Japanese aerial attack on the Kurils, the scenario "Enough is Enough" is in the community testing thread. Japan does not have SEAD capabilities, but feel free to edit some in e.g. "recent purchases from US industry". The battle is small and quick to play, so I would not add a lot of capability.

I made test scenario in Kurils Island. Added few Russian sam units and tried to destroy them by japanese forces. Mission seems very hard. JDAM bombs are only against fixed. Not sure about Harpoons, can they take sam units out. These scenarios are fun. Maybe move ships near coast and blast sam units by naval guns. Not sure if I can finish any scenario, but this challenge surely is interesting.

I will try Enough is Enough mission.

I think this may worth seeing. This is DefensePrograms and Budget of Japan of 2018. You can see some stand-off weapons, like JSM for F-35A and LRASM and JASSM for F-15J/DJ. and research of HVGP (Hyper VelocityGliding Projectile) launching from ships or facilities.

So wait until late-2020. Japan self-defence force might has some long range anti-surface missile at that time.(Hopefully)

That's a good source, thanks KC45.

It is interesting challenge to take Russian SAM units without SEAD missiles or long-range standoff weapons. I found out that attack helicopters and quite good at it, also it's possible to move ships and blast them by guns. Fun indeed. :)
