Zaharius -> Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/13/2018 12:09:11 PM)

Games crash after saving Grand Campaign (or Campaign or even Operation). After deleting savegame in Documents game run fine to moment when you start Campaign, win (or lose) and save the progress, after that game crash until deleting savegame. Windows 7 64bit. Patch

PipFromSlitherine -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/13/2018 5:03:15 PM)

Is it possible that your AV is preventing writing to the Documents folder? Also, are you running any file syncing software that could be affecting the LSA folder?

Cheers

Pip

Zaharius -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/13/2018 6:11:18 PM)

No AV installed and no Syncing program.

Zaharius -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/13/2018 6:29:56 PM)

On 5.60 works fine, saving GC dont crash app. On 6.00.00 works fine with saves from 5.60 but still crash after making save on 6.00.00

PipFromSlitherine -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/14/2018 3:03:46 PM)

The new version saves to Documents rather than into the install folder as the old version did. Is your Documents folder somewhere other than the default placement?

Cheers

Pip

I am also having this problem

My ‘My Documents’ folder is not in the Windows 10 default location and it would not be my preference to change this.

I purchased and installed the game last night.

CC game installed to C:\
I start and save a game and it saves it to
C:\Users\myusername\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\CloseCombatLastStandArnhem\Games\Save

How can I work around this?

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 12:21:33 PM)

welcome to the board and forum btw, and sorry for the late welcome[;)]

there is no way of giving the game permissions to save to one drive, or cloud or even a NAS drive as it's not a physical drive on your location, so imo unless the developer says other wise, there is no work around

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 12:25:12 PM)

while telling windows 10 to do it is one thing, to get any game to follow suit is another, unless design from the start to support offline or cloud / one driver or external saving protocols

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/cannot-save-files-onedrive-folder-upgrading-windows-10

then again most games don't support it with windows xp, 7/8 and now 10 either

Rabbit Fufu -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 12:53:34 PM)

Thank you for the quick reply.

OneDrive is on my hard drive, it appears just to be a directory name, and the game is able to write the save to that sub directory. I can go into explorer and see it. The game does not crash when I hit save

Its when I launch game and hit 'Play' that it seems to be trying to find my progress so far and the files are not where they expect to be. As a test I would like to move the save files to the subdir that CC expects them to be in. But i don't know where that is.

Also looking at Windows 10 I seem to have the ability to change environment variables (Settings/System/Advanced/Environment).

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 1:05:40 PM)

if you install the game by default and into the a working default doc's folder and structure and don't use one drive, eg unless your using it to backup your docs etc in which can you will need one drive help on how to do it, as i for one can't help on solutions for other apps and programs, game works fine on windows 10, if you complicate it and alter it, it may or may not, there are no solutions for these if you follow my guide and use the game as designed, it works flawlessly, adding anything else into the mix, poor AV programs or other apps and programs, then there is a % chance it won't, this is why we recommend the default way for everything, a way that does work.

i'm sorry to say, you can try staff support, but i was hazard a guess that they will explain the same thing and just repeat what i've already mentioned.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4190946

here is my guide for installing on windows 10, like i've said it works right out of the box on the latest version.

my tips guide for windows 10 and Nvidia driver installing is below.

installing the game as admin, eg right click install as admin, then right click run as admin sets up the correct permissions to install and run on windows 10,

if your using one drive for backups etc, it may have permissions to upload to the cloud, and even let the game save to it, but yes on reloading the same save back into the game, as it seems to be where the error is, doesn't have the same level of permissions to run, which is why it crashes

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 1:17:31 PM)

so unless you wish to search one drive help and support pages on how to configure it for saving and giving it the correct user rights for the game as well, as it will mean not only altering the permissions but paths as well, good luck,. as i'm not sure how you'd do it either, as you would need not only a working knowledge of the default paths and permissions but also the paths as well, to alter before hand, then and only then attempt to do it and fingers crossed it worked, it would be easier imo to forget it and uninstall it, and install it again correctly, and see if that helps, if not, then alter the default install and save it to elsewhere, eg C:\ Games etc and then hope installing as admin to a new none default place alters the path to the saves as well, which if it does, it will make on the administrator install, hopefully, if not, then i have no idea i'm sorry to say and can't help[:(]

Rabbit Fufu -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 2:56:46 PM)

Thank you again for all the attention to my problem. I have reinstalled the game using all you Windows 10 installer pointers , running as admin at all places.

I do not 'run' onedrive on my computer. its not executing. also i can disconnect my internet and still get to onedrive directories. so while onedrive may be doing things security wise, its not an issue of finding a path to it.

i can play games, i can save games, i can search my drive and see my saves. its when i relaunch i crash. so if i can just play the entire Grand Campaign in one sitting I am all set :).

i would really be curious to know the default path of where CC expects to find the saved games. I would like to move my saves there as a test.

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 3:10:10 PM)

almost all games here save to the Doc's folder

[image]local://upfiles/43185/B3681805F1954E7880A6755F9FF4122E.jpg[/image]

so by default it would be, This PC, Documents, Game Name, Save Games folder

zakblood -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/24/2018 3:14:18 PM)

as you don't use one drive, i'd just recommend uninstalling it and rebooting tbh and restarting from scratch, eg uninstall, makes sure the folders is deleted and reinstall, using a registry cleaner as well to remove any left over traces, but reboot after removing eg uninstalling one drive first

[image]local://upfiles/43185/CDC596D939554A3CAEFFEA7EF45CD777.jpg[/image]

have the least amount of programs and apps in the start up, and as shown, CCleaner is free and good with windows 10 at registry cleaning etc

Rabbit Fufu -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (11/28/2018 9:15:22 PM)

Kanov -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (12/2/2018 1:55:32 AM)

I'm too having the crash when the GC is saved automatically by the game after first battle. And also when hitting the button "back" from the GC strat map the game is crashing. I can't use full screen either, it must be run in windowed mode for some reason. The unit names flicker constantly when selected too which is annoying.

Please fix this, it can't be that such a great game goes unplayed because of these grave issues. Attached is the savegame if its of any help.

I did some thinkering and disabled the microsoft antivirus thing that comes with windows 10. I can now play multiple battles on the campaign but as soon as I hit the "back" button in the strategic map, the game crashes and when I start it again and press "Play Game" it crashes and I cant even enter the game proper until I erase the savegame.

So there's no option for me to save, I will just have to play the campaign on one sitting I guess. Thanks for the extra challenge Matrix!

I have similar issue

grantr -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (12/31/2018 6:08:33 AM)

Hi.

I installed the latest patch and experienced CTD when pressing play. I was attempting to play multiplayer so was desperate to resolve and therefore was not particularly thorough during the process. Ultimately I was able to get in a long multiplayer session, playing multiple single battles.

These are the steps I took and my observations;

1. Uninstall the game
2. Install base version and patch
3. Here I’m a little unclear because of my haste. I cannot recall at what point I deleted the saved games location as described above, but I did. At this point I was able to press Play and begin a game. To be clear, I deleted the entire Saved game folder structure from root downwards.
4. As a further test, I placed a saved campaign that I had salvaged before uninstalling, back in the Saved game location. This caused a CTD when pressing play.
5. I then simply removed the Saved game and was able to press play and begin a game.

Not exactly a science, but hope that it helps.

Kind Regards - Grant

Hi

Just rereading this thread and my experience of managing to play multiple single games. Can it be that this issue is restricted to operations and campaigns?

Kind Regards- Grant

WilliSaenger -> RE: Crash after saving GC, Patch 6.00.00 (1/2/2019 2:54:03 AM)

To solve the issue, install the v6.0 update that came out in August not the one of October.
