Phoenix100 -> Can I give orders to mounted passengers? (11/16/2018 12:34:00 PM)

Can I do an orders chain to an APC which includes an order chain to its passengers, once they've dismounted? Can't see a way to do that. I'm thinking simple, like order an APC to move to a village, order the passengers to dismount once there and run into a nearby building. Admittedly, I haven't played for long yet, but can't find a way to do this. Does it exist, anyone? Many thanks.

I think it is impossible to issue waypoint command to mounted passengers, we cannot even select them whey they are in the taxi. It seems that such feature is not easy one to add in current source code, to perform such control, but it sounds like a good idea. I'm also using that feature in Combat Mission.

I think it sounds reasonable. Right now, soldiers are forced to stay in the open due to command delay, after dismount. But if it is able to make a waypoint for mounted infantry, then soldiers will move immediately after dismount. So... I wish devs consider this option if they have some enough time & resources.

For time being, I think the best we can do is, dismount troops in covered place like in the woods or behind the buildings or etc, so that minimize the exposure time for infantry before they move to building or other cover after dismount.

Yes, one of the things I learnt the hard way was giving the order to unload troops in a specific location moves the APC there and then the unload occurs in a different cell. What I wanted was for the troops to unload into the spot I selected...cost a couple of squads unloading and sitting in the open before I got it right.

Cheers,

You can do this by combining the formation 'unload' and 'defend' waypoints (see the image).

If you're commanding individual squads to go to the exact locations you want then you're micromanaging, and thus the command delay is longer and they'll have to wait longer in the open.

They try to overwatch the 'defend' location and to find the positions with the best cover and concealment.

See, things like that behaviour are really cool, but exactly how it works is very poorly signalled in the game. Things like this - also using March formations for road dmovement - would really benefit from either direct tutorialization ingame, or illustration in the manual. Otherwise, thanks!

Let's hope we will have videos showcasing them.

Maybe also some tips such as these could be collected for an appendix in the manual?

It wasn't until reading this thread that I realized how useful the defend command could be for infantry.

Ah. So that's it. Many thanks, Vietikka. I'll try that right now.
