Normally when you melee you have to pass a "gut check" or you "cower" and the enemy usually does a number on you. SOme units (I forget if its just some nationalities or not...I thin its anybody) units will, if they fail and teh enemy passes, get a 2nd chance to pass (now that they see the enemy coming for them) if they pass that 2nd "gut check" they "go Berserk". Berserk units get a bonus attacking and always attack first, and then are attacked by the enemy suvivors. Normal melee if both sides pass is "simulatanueos" unless a unit "cowers" then it gets a combat penelty and only its suviors attack back.
