Christolos -> Hexes marked with ships and US flags (12/11/2018 12:45:52 AM)

Hi,

I've looked all through the manual but can't seem to find anything describing how the hexes that seem to define US security zones, function.

What exactly are these hexes for and what do they do/how do they function?

Thanks,

C

If Axis naval units cross this line, US public opinion objects, and thus US mobilization % rises.

In addition to keeping the Axis out they keep the US in. Having any US units go beyond the boundary on the east coast will lower mobilization. On the West Coast you have a little more leeway but there are limits to what you can deploy there as well.

They are there to keep the US from gamey tactics like packing Midway or Hawaii or the Philippines or using their ships to clog Axis movement. I suspect this is the same reason the Soviet Baltic fleet is kept off the map until they go to war.

Thanks Mike and Xenocide.

Is this indicated somewhere in the manual?

There is an event that fires that explains them in the game.

It's also covered in some detail on page 13 of the 1939 World at War Strategy Guide, under the heading of US Neutrality.

Thanks Bill!

I didn't realize the strategy guide was as important as it is and skipped it before I played my first game. I assumed it was a quick tutorial that I as someone who played a lot of War In Europe could skip.

Can I ask why this information was separated from the manual? I feel like a lot of that was included in the War in Europe version.

There are of course a lot of similarities, but it's well worth at least flicking through to obtain an idea of what extra is there too. Definitely, even I have to refer to it sometimes.

One benefit of it being a separate document is that once opened, it's easier to just go through it on its own, and even print it out or transfer it to a tablet for easy reading (as all documents can be found within the game's main installation folder, in the Manuals sub-folder).

I love the fact that it's there and it's well done. My fault for skipping it.
