wfzimmerman -> Narvik? (12/12/2018 6:00:03 PM)

Is there any way to get enough additional forces to Narvik to capture it using the two special forces units that come from the event firing?

Well, having 2 or 3 Carriers arround might give you a fighting chance.

Yeah, as was said sending carriers might work. Then you pound the garrison and hope to force a retreat. You are unlikely to be able to eliminate the garrison but if you can force it out you can start supplying the Special Forces units.

I usually try to liberate Norway. Send in the HQ from France once the situation there becomes untenable as a long range amphib to back up the Special Forces unit and eventually the SF unit can force a retreat. Send a Corps or Army in behind the garrison as another amphib to put it out of supply. Then eliminate it. Ship more units in (usually I use the rest of the BEF) and send the Special Forces unit north to liberate the rest of the villages while the rest of the army heads south to punch through Trondheim and then either liberate the coast or go straight for Oslo.

That's interesting, I've always sent the BEF to the Middle East but this is an interesting twist.

Do you send any of the units you use in Norway to the ME when they are done?

Usually not, the Norway campaign usually takes until early 1942 to be finished. I send the troops back to Britain for D-Day.

In Africa I build the one remaining Sudanese corps (so they have an HQ and two corps) and send the South Africans (an HQ and two corps, one already in queue) north. They work together to liberate Ethiopia and take out the Italian presence. Then head North. Usually get there around the time Rommel starts getting frisky.

The developers made Narvik a tough nut to crack even though, historically, it was the British evacuation that enabled the Germans to reoccupy the town . . . my strategy involves first reinforcing/upgrading the British Special Forces unit in the U.K. and instead launching an amphibious invasion at Steinkjer (unoccupied), then landing a HQ and Mech unit at the same site. From there, they head south to capture Trondheim. By that point, the Brits have likely achieved the infantry weapons research tech and, with associated upgrading, they can pretty much do as they please in Norway by first recapturing Narvik with air support from the carriers, then heading south to create all kinds of havoc. The French unit that returns from Finland can either be transported to France or sent on to Narvik when the opportunity arises. I move it south from Narvik just to capture unoccupied towns and irritate the Germans -- those towns will revert back to German control when France surrenders.
