New player looking to understand the MaxReact setting in the TF screen? What is this for? What do the values cause to happen? I could not find it in the manual.

Reacting is a movement where a friendly TF will move toward a detected enemy TF in order to intercept. The 'MaxReact' is the maximum number of hexes the friendly TF will react from.

Thanks that helps.

Be aware that a Carrier TF has a different reaction algorithm that does not use the React settings that you use for other types of TFs. Carrier TFs react or not according to a die roll and other factors hidden in the algorithm. I think the Admiral's aggression rating is one of the factors. It is possible to have two CV TFs start in the same hex and one reacts toward the enemy and the other does not! Carrier TFs also will react away from enemy SCTFs when they are detected nearby and will disengage as soon as they can from any surface fight.

And there is a partial reaction in the case of an ASW TF getting detection on a sub. It will only move to chase a sub in an adjacent hex, not any further away than that. And because the algorithm is incomplete, the movement into the adjoining hex is not followed up by an immediate attack on the sub. The ASW may do this partial react several times in a turn, staying with the sub but never attacking.

One other thing I forgot to add is that CV TF's all have an automatic react range of one. See 6.3.4.

Its in there, see 6.2.5.

Be aware that any react is dependent on various die rolls, etc.

Read this thread for the reaction setting.
