MTTODD -> Why did tanks not fire (12/21/2018 7:32:51 PM)

Admittedly I am a beginner but very confused as to what happened playing the pide piper scenario.

Was enjoying the game and doing well! when I moved my Leopard 2 tanks up to the B38 road, to wait for the Soviet
response. But all what happened was that I saw soviet tank fire(red lines) destroy all my tanks while the Leopards just sat there and did not respond!
I could not see what was firing at them, but my tanks did not fire back.

Any help appreciated, as it spoiled a very good game.

Do you have any screenshots or save files to help? The Leopards could have been resupplying, or at low readiness or ammo.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots or save files. But I am going to play the scenario again, and if it occurs again, I will get a save file.

The unit was fresh, so it was not resupplying and would not of had a low readiness level.

Hi,

Just a guess, but:

If you could not see the Soviet units firing then neither could your tanks. If the enemy is not spotted then direct fire isn't going to happen.
I'm thinking you just got ambushed.[:(]

Hi,

That's a good point you make about the ambush.

Only thing is it seemed to take a long time before they realised, as they did not shoot back just kept taking fire.

Also I thought that the Leopards were already in screen or hold position, and then sometime after they were hit by unseen fire.

But I suppose it's hard to tell with the WEGO system.

Another possible explanation is that the soviet tanks (stationary, and therefor less likely to be spotted) fired their 9M119 / AT-11 Sniper ATGM (launching it through their smooth bore gun); this missile has a range of up to 5km, which exceeds the effective range of the Leopard's 120mm gun. The soviet tanks may have been out-ranging the Leopards.

I have to agree with both points. Either ambush or a lucky spotting and ATGM.

Yep, Soviet tanks in that scenario are really lethal with their ATGMs. Your tanks were maybe out of range.
