I was surprised, reviewing artillery units, to find 27 cm Mortar Regiments in stock.
There were none. ONLY one prototype mortar was built. It could have been fielded
as an independent mortar company, similar to the first independent gun company (with
a single long range gun), but apparently it never was. There could not have been
any 27 cm mortar regiments.

I have noticed that too. And that mortar is quite good.

I concur. It is a fine mortar. In Japan enhanced scenarios, I build a second one,
and field them in a separate independent artillery company (the 3rd) - joining two
other special artillery companies of history - the first with Japan's only major
rail gun and a weird "company" with two 28 cm howitzers and two 15 cm guns.

The inclusion of the 27cm Mortar was an error (my error). As you can see in your linked Axis History forum thread, I noticed this error roughly two years after the release of the AE for the reasons given there.

Well, shxxx happens.[8D]

I remember reading the design note for the manual and noting that Akira was thanked. Always a good sign for clearing up the difficulties from Japanese-to-English translations and my understanding is that he's something of an authority on IJA tank units.
