We have just broken into Sept 42 and i thought he was done expanding, but I was wrong as he lands some troops at a dot base in NE Oz - Cove I believe the name. Its out of range of all my a/c except the 20 or so B-17s sitting at Charters, they are ordered to attack...
A few turns back the 52nd IJA division (and at least 1 Base Force) attempted to land at Johnston island - pretty bold for this late in the game. His amphibious TFs pound the base and the troops were definitely not prepped as they took horrendous losses in the landing itself. I don't believe he expected the regiment of US Army troops, along with artillery, defending from behind level 4 forts.
After the Pearl-based B-17s blasted his troops his attacks managed to only knock the forts down to level 3 before he withdrew... The B-17s really pummeled his troops out in the open and helped a lot in the battle...That division will need a month or more at a large base to recover all the disabled and lost squads. The invinceable IJA have been stopped and morale goes up all over the Allied side.
US aircraft are well on their way to the Burma theater and once my CVs are repaired enough they will head back to the west coast for upgrades and to escort several divisions back into the hot zone... By then I will have a few more CVEs and CVs to add to the fleet.
While I wait, I have been building up forts, airfields and ports at major bases and now sport a nice infrastructure in OZ and Auckland. I have chosen Ua Haku as my new base in the far south pacific and am building it up as we speak. The island will hold 60k troops, so I am putting a full division there to keep it secure. Several units of Seabees and other engineer units (including some coastal CD units) are rounding off the troop compliment.
Once fully expanded this base will help in the transition of men and material from the US to OZ - though I may need another base east of Auckland so once Ua Haku is built up I will need to move forward and find or take another base.
I haven't seen the IJN CVs for a while but intel last reported them at Noumea. I am trying to figure out when he will send them home for repairs and upgrades. I want to be able to leapfrog forward and take some bases while his naval air superiority is gone.
