t38 -> Mopre practical scale? (12/28/2018 8:46:53 PM)

Am scanning titles for more practical=- limited to Division/Army Level Eastern front game, not seeing any. Any ideas?

Strategic Command has plenty of Eastern Front goodness.

Even more straightforward could be Unity of Command which focuses on Eastern Front.

Or maybe Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa, not too heavy to get into or play but has depth to it.

I've got a corps/army scale Barbarossa scenario for TOAW IV:

I have DC B - but can not imagine moving 140 units in less than half hour per tedious turn! Rocketman - how much time do you require for DC-B turn?

Mrs Wargamer - thank you for 2 possible - been trying find this thread again -after checking them out! Strategic Command looks very good - 20 mile hex, fewer tiles , and multi scenarios starting in Poland in 39 - much like my old Panzer General! The 1941 would serve my interest in Barbarossa- the " world changer." Unity of command seems limited to 42-43 - been then it was all over but the shouting. Thanks again.

Curtis Lemay - that sounds like best scale - for entire theater game - TOAW?

Yes TOAW IV.

Curtis Lemay - looked at your fine O B examples - do like your corps markers, but still a lot of div ones. 1388 units all together?

It has been a while since I played it but once you get into the campaign's initial phases, it is not 140 units per turn to move. Each turn might take some time, but I didn't find it tedious. There where these amounts of divisions so at that scale it is not overly complex. I found Unity of Command more of a puzzle game than a war game, as it was more of moving units and starting combat in a certain sequence that felt set to succeed. Just my two cents.

There are about 230 actual combat units per side. The rest are part of the Soviet production system (factories, lend-lease, manpower levies).

Toaw plays well and covers different era's.

As in reality - all depends on first 6 weeks in Barbarossa - better take plenty of time with each - still, short campaign is big investment of time- 12 turns for 6 weeks. plus follow up August, Sept. Unity of Command time frame beyond the critical period, so ordered multi game option ( like my old PaNZER gENERAL) IN THE STRATEGIC COMMAND - WAR IN EUROPE- ( 20 MILE HEX) WILL SEE HOW THAT GOES - THOUGHTS ON THAT GAME?
