Hi,
I have just bought Command: Modern Air / Naval Operations WOTY.
Is there any scenarios with CV? I interested in scenario with some new Chinese fleet carriers, or Japanese Helicopter destroyers/carriers.

Or get me some advice which scenarios is the best for newbie for training.

First I would recommend ALL the training scenarios. They will get you a good feel for the game.

Chains of War DLC has the Chinese carriers. There are a few scenarios in the community pack that have the Japanese ships.

It doesn't have the Chinese carrier, but one good scenario to familiarise yourself with Chinese aircraft is Operation Fei Lian on the Community Scenario Pack. It's an easy, ground strike scenario that gives you a lot of leeway. Check it out!

My guide here has a few suggestions for Carrier Operations scenarios, but none of those feature the Liaoning or JMSDF carriers.

As for the Liaoning, try the scenario 'The Tiger and the Dragon,2019' under the Standalone Scenarios folder. It's a duel between the Liaoning and the Indian carrier Vikramaditya in the South China Sea.

Also, the Community scenario 'Incident at Le Perouse Strait' features a then hypothetical Izumo DDH with F-35s, but it's an old scenario and may not have been updated in a while.


But as my guide suggests, Carrier ops are not for total newbies.

I have completed the flight and ground tutorial campaigns plus one scenario for a naval tutorial. Afterwards I have completed two missions in Shifting sands and now I am intimidated by the 3th mission, which is about the big war between Egpyt and Israel in Operation "Moked". So I wonder which scenarios are the best learning preparations for me to be able to start Operation Moked. I think Moked depends on good timing and requires some good knowledge of how to create automated missions, but I am still not very good at this.

The button-ology of creating missions isn't hard, there's just a million options. A lot of that can be minimized by taking advantage of the side-mission-group-platform hierarchy so you don't have to set the same thing to the same value over and over again.

The really hard part is planning and thinking about how different missions work together (e.g. do I lead with the SEAD patrol or do I lead with the AAW patrol, and carve out a lane through the enemy air defenses and fighters?). A lot of that is mission specific. That's also where you get into history and doctrine, because different countries with similar technologies might behave very differently, and hence set up their missions very differently because they use different tactics.

I don't think there's really a planning tutorial because in a sense, that's the real meat of the game. It's sort of like chess, you can learn the rules (buttonology) in an afternoon, and spend a lifetime trying to get good. Command is a lot like that.

The problem with the "buttonology" in CMANO is that they might sound simple, but the result is not always what you expect in special situations, which can mess up your whole strategy.

Yep, it can be hard to keep an overview. I have never tried the timing options for missions yet (i.e. the time when they start or stop). Are there any general methods how to use those mission timers? I have no idea how to use them in a good way.

I mostly use them when I'm writing scenarios, and I want the AI aircraft to arrive on target in a certain sequence (e.g. SEAD comes before fighter sweeps, which comes before the bomber train). If I use them while I'm playing, it's also because I want a specific sequence of things. In that case, though, I almost always keep a spreadsheet opened in another monitor to perform quick time/distance calculations.

When there's a person in the loop, though, it's easier to control the aircraft directly a lot of the time, or create missions to represent push points, and that way I can control the sequencing.
