This is very interesting. Your mileage may vary.

Interesting video,thanks.

Lobster -> RE: The Secret Soviet Plan to Crush NATO in 7 Days (1/18/2019 11:19:07 PM)

NATO always thought the Soviets would attempt to drive to the west as fast as they could and they (NATO) would be attempting a delaying action. Wasn't much of a secret. [;)]

I love how he talks about the nuclear weapons and the video shows self propelled anti-aircraft systems. Tells you something about the credibility of this guy. Also, Germans closed the Minsk pocket on 27th of June 1941. They moved 300 km in 5 days - 60 km per day, faster than the Soviet plan to reach the Rhine. Youtube is full of similar garbage.

Lobster -> RE: The Secret Soviet Plan to Crush NATO in 7 Days (1/19/2019 4:05:34 AM)

Yeah the nuke stuff was crazy. If any nukes were used, tactical or otherwise, the Soviets wouldn't have to worry about getting to the Rhine. No one would have to worry about anything except trying to stay alive.

I've seen maps of plans produced by Warsaw Pact countries (not the USSR). All of them showed western Europe doused with nuclear strikes. That mentioned, I share Lobster's skepticism about how that could bring about any advantage. It looked like a recipe leading to a contaminated-by-radioactivity re-fight of the 100 Years War.

Cheers

Hard to imagine a wasteland is worth taking over in the first place. What were they planning to do with millions of burned and injured people that have no food or water and are fleeing burning cities? Probably just turn around and go back after not to long. But no, those cities are destroyed as well..
hmmm
Hard to see an advantage in that one.

larryfulkerson -> RE: The Secret Soviet Plan to Crush NATO in 7 Days (1/20/2019 10:53:11 PM)

And there's no guarentee that India wouldn't use the opportunity to nuke Pakistan. And China could nuke the USA AND Russia. And Isreal could nuke all the Arab states. And all this could happen on the same day. Nuclear winter would result and in just 10 years there would be nothing alive on the surface of the earth. We would have to try to live underground or underwater or both. And Trump is President.

Lobster -> RE: The Secret Soviet Plan to Crush NATO in 7 Days (1/21/2019 12:39:19 AM)

China didn't deploy any ICBMs until 1981 and then only two. They had maybe 20 - 30 by the late 1990s. I don't think they would have had much to do in a nuclear war before the 1990s except get obliterated along with the rest of the planet. Anything anyone else contributed that wasn't NATO or Warsaw Pact would have made no difference at all. That has not changed today. If it had happened in 1979 Trump would not be president. Great Aunt Flabby could declare herself president of her cave and the mutants that lived there with her. [:D]

Funny comments, glad it didn't happen, sort of like when Germans invaded ussr. Soldiers were heard to say, " This area is a shythole" What the heck are we here for. Soviet soldiers said , Germans had civilization and they had nothing, unbelievable..

NikolaiEzhov -> RE: The Secret Soviet Plan to Crush NATO in 7 Days (1/21/2019 2:14:10 AM)

The number of operational Chinese IRBM/ICBMs never exceeds 30 during the cold war.
This number further decreased in the 1990s following a series of LZ-2 launches.

But the trams, phones, and banks were working in Hiroshima a few days after the bomb dropped. (Albeit a limited service).

Interesting video, thank you for sharing. I'm curious about what sources this is based on.

Have been out of the TOAW scene for a while, but found the site below invaluable when researching my Berlin Crisis 1961 scenario:

Generally i would recomend to educate yourself on national policies on the use of nukes (Link).
Apparently it was China who developed doctrine of using nukes only as retaliation (NFU policy) whereas USA, Russia or Isreal stick to the "we can nuke them" doctrine.
And NATO's trigger for nuking "military targets" like city of Warsaw was Soviets invading Western Germany.

There are no good guys in this. The ****s on top never have and never will care about us
