56ajax -> Guards Creation (1/21/2019 8:19:23 AM)

It is T15 and my first 2 divisions have been upgraded to Guards Status

1GD - morale of 40 and experience of 32
2GD - morale of 40 and experience of 27

Absolutely useless for another 20 weeks.

Is this a joke?

And they are bright red so stand out like dogs reproductive system. Over here, over here.

(With years of hindsight perhaps Guards status should be nominated by the player, at a cost of Admin points, and provided some basic metrics have been met).

Get them 10 hex away from any German unit and refit them up to their max morale. Then back to fight !

What Alex said. Your guards units should be pulled out of the line and sent to the rear, sitting on rail lines on refit and 100% max TOE. They will be up to strength and full morale within a couple of turns. You can put them in combat and look for places where they will win battles so as to gain experience and more morale.

Yes you are correct they will have max Morale pretty quick but their experience will absolutely be in the pits for a very very long time. For instance, my 1st Guard division I had sitting in Stalingrad after getting promoted the 2nd possible week of Guard nominations. The 1st Guard Division just now hit 55 experience in all stats on turn 43. Took F O R E V E R, but maybe that is what the designers had in mind.

I personally leave the good Guard divisions out of battles since it is counterproductive if your guards take HUGE loses that need to be replaced.

Plus, now this is just me but EXPERIENCE >>> Morale. But many others value Morale over experience.

This is the exact reason I go out of my way to attack with the really good Soviet Divisions to get the required wins for Guard status. That way the experience grind to 55 is not that bad with the High experience Soviet Divisions that you save at the beginning of the game. It is totally useless to have one of the PM divisions get Guard imho. I was able to get two of the 60 Morale divisions in my game guard status early. Currently, they are sitting at 62 experience and 65 experience ;-). They are juggernauts and makes my pee pee hard everytime I click on them in the game. Needless to say, they will be in the 1st Corps I put together.

HLYA is right that experience is very important. But a low experience unit with good morale is still a good thing to have, as opposed to a low experience unit with poor morale.

The manual says that if a unit participated in combat on the previous turn it has a chance to gain extra experience. So I think that being in low losses victorious battles is the best way to gain experience.

Like the chance I will win the lottery....so vague...I tried to measure it once and couldn't....

MarauderPL -> RE: Guards Creation (1/22/2019 8:45:00 AM)

Doesnt the EXP weigh the same in CV rolls as morale?

SparkleyTits -> RE: Guards Creation (1/22/2019 9:31:16 AM)

Yeah both are important for what CV shows on a counter

A 90 morale 10exp division will not have much CV, It would also kill nothing and lose men in droves when in a battle
A 10 morale 90exp will also not have much CV and would retreat at the first couple of enemy bullets fired

Morale alone, within reason, can give you the ability to survive if you need to hold on defensively even if it does not give great battles results, ratios and does not gain you much in the way of strategic initiative beyond staying alive, as your units will hold the line even if they don't hold up well in the death department doing it
If you want to go on the offensive and grind down you opponent then you also need EXP as it needed when you want to throw your own punches back and is a very important stat to outlast your opponents staying power
