Haven't been on the Forum for a few days and had not seen this. Michael put me onto it when he and I talked earlier this morning.

Thanks Dan.

Pretty tough. Have some heartfelt and unprintable words for Mr. Dee Ford but that is OK. There will always be next year and Mahomes is the real deal.

BASEBALL season isn't too far away and hope does always spring eternal for the Kansas City Royals. Two great seasons just a couple of years ago and now back to rebuilding. Small market SUCKS!

A lot of people assume I'm a fairweather fan or a bandwagon fan because I'm from LA and yet I root for the Patriots. In reality, I've been a Boston fan all my life due to my dad's influence (he grew up in Southie) and am old enough to have experienced the very tail end of the dark times of being a Boston fan (raised on the lore of always getting close but failing as a Redsox fan and experienced it personally when Grady Little left Pedro in an inning too long in the ALCS). It's been pretty much a sugar high of glory for 18 years now, however.

That said, LA is definitely a bandwagon city that seems to only care about teams if they are winning: Lakers always, Dodgers now that they've been to the WS a few times recently, and Kings when they won the SC (now that they suck, no one cares about them). I guarantee you the Rams are THE LA team now that they are in the Superbowl and the raiders and Chargers will be quickly forgotten.

Still, I don't get too attached to these things because I recognize that sports are entertainment and looking at it that way I recognize how the NFL is a superior product. Few other sports can create so many lows and highs and general excitement in the space of one game like it can. So I watch it and don't care too much for how "devoted" a team is to a city, etc. I still have fun; and if my team loses, I'll probably be devastated for an hour or two, maybe a day if its the Patriots going for the perfect season and losing in the Superbowl, but it won't last much beyond that.

I've supported Tottenham Hotspur FC since I was 7, like my dad and my grandad before me - and I'm delighted to say my eldest little cruiser is following in this tradition too.

Yes, we haven't won the league in my lifetime (1961), yes our last major trophy was 2008 and that was only the League Cup, but I've nailed my colours to the blue and white mast - and that's it until I die.

As for any glory hunters out there - you can do one.....

Then again I'm from Brooklyn originally. Dad and the family were Yankee fans even though most lived in Brooklyn/Queens.

It is usually exactly that sort of emotional attachment related to a specific person or event in ones life..and the moxy to admit being a fan in good times and bad.

2) Hotspurs ...

Well thank goodness because Crystal Palace uniforms are still god awful... [8D] ..and Arsenal has always been hard to root for.

And fewer options being more London area based teams.... unless you currently live in the heart of ManCity or Liverpool.

If that were the case - the forumites here may ask you to enroll a life insurance policy naming us equal beneficiaries [8D]

I am an evil Red Sox fan - but always have been, having grown up in Boston (Dorchester, not Southie :>) ). 86 devastated me, in Uni and swamped by tri-state NY fans at the time. Not a pigskin fan, so the Pats winning again is not a bandwagon I will ever jump on (I was a rugger in Uni - and we thought guys who wore pads rested more than playing were not as 'tough' as us - now ducks to not get killed by return fire).

But agree - pick your teams and stick with them through thick and thin. I really dislike the whole Redsox Nation folks who are only there for the good times.

And cannot wait to see which teams pick up the nightmares that Manny and Harper will be. Clubhouse cancers and fairly over-rated. Bring me a Dwight Evans, Derek Jeter, or Griffey over those fools.

Agreed. Although not WRT Harper, don't know of him well enough. Is he a head case?

yep - he's the BEST in his own mind.....78 was bad but not like 86 when the thing was won and the manager messed it up (and I was was covered in NY fans in 86, but not in 78).

04 was so sweet. I was travelling for work out in Phoenix and was sad that I thought I wouldn't be able to see the games (work dinners and all). But the CEO of Cisco, John Chambers, has TVs rolled into the dining room so got to watch game 6 that way. For game 7 it was a cocktail reception and again TVs rolled out throughout the area. So got to see the winning game with a drink in hand. For the record John is not a Red Sox fan - I think he is an A's fan. But a class act to look after us like that.

I think all professional sports leagues would be immeasurably better if we simply eliminated every Boston based Franchise.

Baseball sans Red Sox ? You bet - urgently needed - miss the days of the Bambino curse

Hockey sans Bruins ? Perfect - never should of had Bobby Orr (Ontarian) or Raymond Bourque (Quebecer) in the first instance.

Basketball sans Celtics ? Ideal - hate the color Green.

Football sans Patriots ? Clearly the barrier to league wide parity removed. Cheating reduced by 35%.

Funny. I grew up in Miami a die-hard Dolphins fans. Early '70s - Griese, Czonka, Warfield, Morris, Buonoconti, Little, Mandarich, Kuenchenberg, etc. I loved the Dolphins.

But I've never had a problem with Boston. Red Sox? Good teams or good players, sometimes both; not annoying, like Yankees. Patriots (I still think of them as the Boston Patriots)? Smart, though, superbly coached. Celtics? Good teams, and Larry Bird was awesome. Bruins? I have zero familiarity with hockey. I can't tell you which teams are good or bad and have no likes or dislikes.

I'm not a fan of the Yankees, but other than that I can't really think of any pro teams right now that merit real passionate dislike. The last team I can think of is the Oakland Raiders of the Jack Tatum era. The great teams are kind of fun: '70s Reds, '80s Celtics, '90s Bulls, 00s Patriots.

Maybe that was late 70's or latter. Patriots always seemed to play a dark horse upset role in divisional games in my imperfect memory.

In Hockey Terms - a pox a curse - the existence of a team rightfully stealing the crown of glory from other 'original 6 franchises' but especially Toronto - Montreal to a lesser degree - Detroit Red Wings - New York Rangers - Chicago Blackhawks - decreasingly down the list.

They didn't necessarily win the Stanley Cup more often - but seemed always to be strong at the 'wrong time' depending upon who your team was.

Lakers vs. Celtics was fun. I'm not a huge basketball fan. I don't think I've ever watched an NBA game. I've attended one. But I enjoy reading about the sport, and I keep up with the Atlanta Hawks, pulling for them to somehow someday do okay.

When I left Miami in 1979 to go to college in Georgia, I was still a big Dolphins fan. I attended one game (vs. the Jets) during a Christmas break, around 1980. That was the last pro football game I attended. When Don Shula left in the mid '80s, my last link to the teams of my boyhood was gone. I haven't followed the Dolphins since. I do pull for the Falcons but not in the same intense way. I've never been to a Falcons game.

The Atlanta Braves are my main pro team, and have been since 1974. I even enjoy the offseason, seeing how they and other teams try to build or tear down. I listen to them on the radio every time I can.

Fond memories of Steve Grogan dropping back in the pocket wearing a neck brace/whiplash protector (or maybe it hid a battery pack). Loved the old uniforms but always thought it was odd that the Patriots wore red considering the whole redcoat thing.

As a Southern Yankee from the Boston area, I must speak in defense of my teams. We have seen worse times and just got lucky after 2000 that we have won 12 championships. I know what its like to lose in the first round of the playoffs on the road if we made the playoffs (Patriots). The Sox broke our hearts in 78 and 86 and even the Celtics had some bad years and bad luck, thinking of Len Bias. Hockey was never my sport, but I do remember Bobby Orr and not much after.

We waited a long time and just got lucky that it all occurred together. Hopefully we will not go back to championship desert.

Cardinals fan here, I'm glad your guys finally won one and against us. The Cubs, however, can stuff themselves with Oreo cookies and die.

We mostly disagree [8D]

While there were dry periods - especially the Sox - Boston based teams always seem to be 'at the cusp'. At the cusp of winning in the playoffs. At the cusp of a playoff spot. At the cusp - winning a big upset game and a mythology surrounding the 'blue collar' work ethic of the Boston (Irish) fans.... [;)]

Celtics - Len Bias sure - ughh ...but then originated the big 3 (Kevin Garnett et al) concept with basically a bare cupboard.

Sox - double ugghhh ....

Patriots - ughhh... much do I long for the days of Tony Easton and Drew Bledsloe ! Prior to that the Pats were always that team in the AFC east that spoiled a run by the Dolphins or Jets.

Bruins.- triple ugghhhh - Orr (from Owen Sound Ontario should have been a Leaf) Raymond Bourque (Quebecer - should have been a Hab) Cam Neely (BCer - should have been a Vancouver Canuck lifer). The Bruins 'always' have those guys - the Bruins always made the playoffs - the Bruins trade away promising star players ala Joe Thorton and then 'improve' overall... ughhh

I'm a member of a small rural church in the Ridge and Valley section of northwest Georgia. It is customary for our church to hold business meetings, on occasion, to discuss things like the budget and maintenance issues.

A few years ago, the chairman of our cemetery committee mentioned that we had six unused plots in the back that were too close to a gravel drive; that people kept driving over them.

"What should we do about those plots?" he asked.

I raised my hand. "Reserve them for the Georgia fans. We're used to getting run over."

Eh - given a choice between Boston and LI - well Boston wins :>)

The old Republic factory is now a nice little museum on LI, not sure if something similar was ever done with the Grumman Iron works. But JFK, the Hamptons, and the LIE - not for me. to each their own.

Hardly. One relatively small hanger has become the LI Air Power Museum. Pretty neat though as everything they have is either flyable or being restored.

According to them. They got a P-51 and B-26 (the fourth one off the assembly lines) that do. The B-26 never left the states. Bunch of others. They even picked up an A-10. Not flying yet though.

Yeah, some of the docents are still WWII vets. The one I had couldn't make the full round, but he was cool. We talked a lot. Told me I could finish on my own and said "you know as much as I do about this stuff".[:D]
