timms -> Soviet Offensive (2/4/2019 4:40:16 PM)

In my current game I'm in February of 43 and I'm in the transition to red army 2.0, which is a new experience for me. One question I have for more experienced soviet players, do you have a rule of thumb you use for how much to commit on attacks against fortified lines? I've got my own strategy going but I am curious what others use. My current setup is as follows 2 x shock army hq w/ 25+ artillery + rocket su (2 army attack to get su commitment from both) 2 x full stacks of guards infantry corps w/ tank reg, AT reg, heavy AA bat 3 x rocket division 3 x artillery division 300/300 ground support w/ sufficient quantities of aircraft on hand to get a big commitment I've experimented with bombing before attacking or not, unsure if the benefit outweighs the fatigue and miles on the eventual attack. With this I've had mixed success breaking through level 3 fort lines, but I feel like I should be able to do more with less. I'm hesitant to use my tanks in the breakthrough, I'd rather save them for follow on attacks but with my current setup I'm only able to push at max 2 or 3 hexes. I have great initial CV with 40+ on most units, but shifts generally hurt me even with best leaders involved. Am I better off waiting for assault engineer brigades to help with fort levels? I only get one shot at it too, panzers show up quick and I can't hold ground against them yet.
