I believe that long range ABM missiles such as the SM-3 Block IIA is not tuned correctly to work with the CEC datalink system. The unit firing the SM-3 can fire the missile on targets well out of the range of any sensors on that unit, but will not use information from other units to guide the missile to the target. This makes the chance of the missile actually engaging the target very low as the initial computed intercept does not seem to match the correct route if the incoming missiles are fired on a heading that is not straight north-south or east-west.

Attached is an example scenario with two BMD destroyers loaded with 8 SM-3 Block IIA missiles each., one modified with a powerful Ballistic Missile tracking radar (AN/SPS-xx Sea-Based X-Band Radar). The OPFOR side has 3 DF-21D launchers, when fired at one of the destroyers, they are detected by the long range radar, and both ships fire SM-3 missiles, only the ones guided by the ship with the powerful radar get course updates while the others go wide and miss.

I made another test and relocated the modified destroyer you modified with AN/SPS-xx radar...it successfully intercepted intercontinental ballistic missile 900NM from the firing unit.
This is the only unit I have seen so far of actually being able to make good use of the 1300NM range of the RIM 161E missile(SM-3 Block IIA). I am curious whether this radar is the only one being able to properly direct this missile at 1000NM+ ranges?

Like you pointed out, other destroyer using SPY radar make little use of the modified destroyer`s powerfull radar (no missile course updates beyond 300NM range.

You can find similar weapons such as R-27TE,MICA IR that can be guided by Mk1.Eyeball or other vehicle's IR sensor.
Once I tried to delete all the radar that destoryer had,and then when a satellite with IR sensor passed by(only it detected the incoming ASBM),the destoryer fired it's SM-3 and successfully hit the target.
This way could also guided the SM-3 from long range,but this may not be a right way[&:]

Yeah, the destroyers will launch the SM-3 on remote detection, but only to the initially calculated intercept. If the ballistic missile is traveling close to north-south, or is traveling east-west near the equator, the intercept point is fairly accurate. On the other hand, when the intercept is near the pole for example, the SM-3s are fired in a very different direction. I suspect that the intercept point is calculated on an equirectangular map projection, rather than being based on the great circle route. As long as the SM-3 missiles get close enough, they will engage, but that is very dependent on the exact circumstances. The engagement you had with the satellite detection was likely favorable to the blind intercept.

Thanks for figuring out the issue with long range BMD. I was working on a national ballistic missile defense scenario but had to put it on hold because the interceptors weren't guiding correctly. Hopefully the CMANO team will figure out a way to solve the problem.

I've attached one of my test scenarios, where a Burke with SM-3 IIA is engaging incoming ICBM's using information from long range radars. As can be seen, the SM-3's are being fired in completely the wrong direction.
