Hi, I’ve recently started to get back into WITPAE, inspired partially by watching THG and XTRG’s head to head PBEM (noticed they are both using a few of my old graphics mods which made me pretty happy too).

Anyway, I’ve started playing the small scenarios first, including the original Guadalcanal to re learn the game. JP production is off in most of the smaller scanarios. In the really small ones it doesn’t matter however a 6 month scenario like Guadalcanal, it does. To compensate in cases like this, the designers provide decent starting aircraft pools for the Japanese player. I wondered what people felt about this, as having tried it, I found the pools can be depleated quite quickly in a heavy conflict zone. The editor will allow you to set the Japanese aircraft to have build rates like the allies. Would this be viable as an alternative for a small scenario that lasts an extended period? And if so, what would you suggest as build rates for the main airframes, as I want to try this, am capable of doing the edits etc but am unsure what would be fair, historical or reasonable for the numbers? The main airframes would be the Zeros, Betties, Kates, Vals and the PAs I think.

I might have misunderstood, but Japan gets replacement aircraft in the Guadalcanal scenario though? You get a set number of replacements the same as the allies. It's not a lot, but it's manageable.

Haven't got the game in front of me so can't quite remember where to check, possibly the air replacement pool.

I think the replacement rates are historical. Even though the bulk of the Japanese navy arrives as replacements, the army and naval air forces do not, because of other commitments (Burma, China, Home Islands). If you want to increase aircraft availability I would use a PP for aircraft replacement scheme (as some newer mods have done), but you would need to do it for both sides. Japan has plenty of PP, but not much to spend them on (I'm currently playing Guadalcanal by PBEM, so I know first hand), but the Allies IIRC spend most of theirs on buying out restricted Aussie ground units. That's my opinion.

In the small scenarios that I have played, the Japanese get a set build rate.
