In the original forum post about blind AMRAAM shots here, it is said that IRST sensors can provide weapons quality tracks at short ranges.

The attached testbed shows that not being the case even with a brand new TALON HATE pod.

When you run it will see that at no moment are you given release autorization for an AIM-120 shot due to lacking an onboard WQ track. The odd thing is that the situation persists even after being given RA for an AIM-9 shot, which employs a smaller much less sentivive IR seeker as a tracking sensor.

I have also checked with the LEGION pod and the OLS-35 seeker of a Su-35, and it gives the same results every time.

So perhaps there is something I'm missing here and this is WAD but, just in case, I am leaving this here.

Lower in the thread, by Sharana. Look for a post with very big brochure insert.

OK, just so that we're clear that you're not reporting a bug (since we never claimed this is implemented in-sim) but you're asking whether a certain RL (supposed) feature is modelled or not.

The answer is: It's not, at least at the moment.

There was a discussion about this some time ago in this very forum: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4595048
