Ursa MAior -> Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 8:34:12 AM)

Hi,

I've been a long time player of WitP (and AE), and after a some 6 years long hiatus I have returned due to the nagging of one of my friends and the delay of similar themed games, who shall not be named here.

So my question is why do my recon planes NOT fly recon missions? They have support, supply and a target.

If recon flights are not listed and shown, how do I now the level of recon achieved, or simply the existence of carried out recon flights?

Thank you in advance.

Can you post a screenshot of the airgroup orders panel? Also what specifically made you think they do not fly?
What is the detection level on target? What is the counter of missions for the recon pilots?

btd64 -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 11:16:26 AM)

Also, look for weather conditions, pilot training....GP

Uh, oh thank you all for the quick answer. I will check and get back to you.

HansBolter -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 12:19:01 PM)

The canceling of recon missions due to weather is a flash message that appears with the screen centered on the base the recon squadron is stationed at with the base highlighted as the message flashes. This is kind of hard to miss.

Yes cancelling air missions are OK, but these wont even start. Gotta get back to my laptop and will post the requested picture.

You flying from AF level 2+, right?
AF Level 1 is for defensive missions only (CAP, NavS/ASW, ...), Recon counts as an offensive mission.

Not true:

7.2.1.13.1 SIZE 1 AIRFIELDS
The following Missions will not be flown from airfields with a current size of 1:
»» Airfield Attack
»» Port Attack
»» Naval Attack
»» Ground Attack
»» (Fighter) Sweep
These airfields were too small to support these kinds of offensive Missions.

Canoerebel -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 2:23:50 PM)

A likely culprit would be squadron commanders with low aggression ratings. They just don't want to fly missions.

RangerJoe -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 2:54:44 PM)

Also the number of planes. The units just don't seem to want to lose that last plane . . .

Ursa MAior -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 5:53:14 PM)

OK. Airfield is size 6, aviation support more than triple than needed, supply plentiful, squadron has 11 out of 12 planes, experience is low at 47, mission set well within range (7 vs rng of 12) weather is fine. Mission set to angels 20 so AAA should not be a problem. Ah Morale is 99 fatigue 1.

So probably it is the fault of lowly 2LT Chohiro with his aggression rating of 31.

Replaced by an aggressive major hopefully helps.

geofflambert -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 7:54:30 PM)

You really do in the end need to examine every squadron commander you have. I aggressively replace training squadron commanders. You just can't afford to keep dead weight. I always look for aggression except with transport squadron commanders, that is to say I sometimes let that slide.

geofflambert -> RE: Recon planes not reconing (3/13/2019 7:56:41 PM)

Another related issue is that when time and PPs permit, I replace all flying commanders with desk jobs, that goes for all types and all missions.

You do not get a screen animation to tell you the mission took place. You can check the detection level on the enemy base before and after the turn, or just check the mission count of the pilots in the unit.
IIRC, a unit with 11 recon aircraft would only send out two - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

"Ah Morale is 99 fatigue 1.

Obviously he has been leading his pilots to the geisha house.

"You do not get a screen animation to tell you the mission took place."

I disagree. I hear a plane engine sound, the screen centers on the target hex and then I hear camera clicking sounds.

And a targeting icon appears over the hex as the camera clicks.

If people actually watch the game unfold instead of escaping out to the combat reports they can witness all kinds of things.

I stand corrected. I have my delay setting for air animations at 0. I do watch other things that yield info I consider useful.

You did not report on the 2 major pieces of evidence I mentioned in the beginning - DL over the target and mission count changes of your pilots. These are definitive in answering the question if the recon missions take place.

Until you provide it is all conjecture.

Hmmmm.... something is wrong, it should be... Two Recons Reconning...
