radic202 -> Where there any WW2 battles fought in Austria? (3/22/2019 2:48:05 PM)

I was just wondering if Austria escape any destruction or battles during WW2? All I could find is a small battle when the Wehrmacht and the USA joined forces together to attack a fortress that Political French and some other high level prisoners were held by High Partisans SS Waffen Units defending a small castle in Western Austria and that was the first and only time that the German army and US troops joined together to fight SS units to liberate the fort (sorry name escapes me now). But did Osterreich really get away with no major destruction or battles during WW2. I do know that the USSR and Americans did occupy the country at the tail end of the war but never really battle any Wehrmacht military during that time.

If any of our "all knowing members on these Forum can confirm me" that could confirm my suspicions plus major question is why, did the Wehrmacht already surrender and simply gave up? Even though sworn to protect Hitlers major guarded secrets in the country?

Thanks in advance my Friends

There was the Soviet Vienna Offensive at the beginning of April 1945.
