This may not be the right forum for this. But I would like to know if someone went through the trouble of making up an expansive list of OOBs for CMANO conflicts. It would be cool to know that adding a fleet or an air regiment, what they are comprised of from date to date. This would save time in scenario building.

Perhaps I'm taking this a bit too seriously? My old Army-self enjoys these kinds of details.

Hey bladesinger79 welcome.

OOBs for a game like Command are not as relevant compared to historical wargames where research can fix forces in a time and place. Sure, we have scenarios covering Vietnam, the Gulf Wars etc.. But they are not going to provide an OOB like a player would get gaming the Battle of Gettysburg or even some East Front battle like Kursk. Compared to ground warfare, air and naval after action reports are closely regarded secrets. And the closer we get to modern times, the less likely we will obtain real OOBs in the traditional sense. I don't what to speak for everyone, but we talk about loadouts of various weapons in the air and at sea, not platoons of infantry and tanks having basically the same weapons. The mind set is very different for Command players. I love games like Combat Mission. And the more I play both, the more I enjoy both for what they are.

A lot of it kinda depends. There's a great series of books on the Soviet Air Forces in the Cold War, for example, but not so much detail online (that I've found anyways). If you're looking for something specific, I'm sure a lot of us would be able to help. Unfortunately, there's no one source or database to consult. Beyond time and country, the ease of finding info out is determined by branch of service and place of service too. For example wikipedia actually has great historical info for the USAF, but no so much the USN (especially if you're trying to find which specific carrier was where and with what air wing and aircraft - never mind escort ships). But there are other sources that have bits and pieces to help you build a bigger picture. Just takes some time, experience, and asking.

For Soviet and Russian ships: http://russianships.info/eng/

For USN aviation this is a great site: http://www.gonavy.jp/index.html

For USAF and US in general FAS is good: https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/index.html

I would check the Dropbox Wayne has set up as well - it has a lot of stuff

But Hellfish6 is right about tracking down escorts for the USN etc - difficult but not impossible if you search old press reports.

I always try and make the OOB as accurate as possible - but don't sweat it too much if there is a gap in accuracy.

Here are a list of ships I've put together.

Some of the Soviet names are made up, most are not. Pennant numbers comes from a Soviet website.

The Chinese pennant numbers are simply consecutive and not accurate, at least for the FACs.

The platforms in red are not in the DB3000, yet (if ever).

The Sovetsky Soyuz class is hypothetical, and follows the progression of the US Iowa class.

The two Australian carriers in red were never in RAN service, but there was talk at the time of acquiring them.

If you are not modelling historical operation, you are modelling something hypothetical and basically "making things up".

bladesinger79, another idea is to open up a few scenarios from the community pack in the editor from the period and region of interest and see how others have put together OOBs. This may ruin the scenario's fog or war however. But this was helpful for me early on since I spent most of my previous wargaming in WW2 on the ground.

Not at all. That sort of thing is the kind of thing Command players enjoy. Besides the already mentioned Baloogan's website, which is a good place to start. There's lots of books out there which can offer historical references. If you're interested in Russian and Chinese aviation, I'd recommend books by Dmitriy Komissarov and Yefim Gordon. Harpia publishing has been producing a lot of good books on warplanes from around the world lately too, I've found them to be a good source of information.

Since I tend to be interested in near-future conflicts, I tend to start with present day stuff and then alter it slightly to project into the future. I might, for example, replace older MiGs with 5th gen or something like that.

You would be surprised how much info is on Wikipedia.

Another great reason to have dual monitors! CMANO up on one and wiki on the other while you're scenario building saves time!

Some people love 100% accurate OOBs and some people are fine with made up OOBs. You don't need to constrain yourself to either one of these. Just do whatever you like as that's the point of CMANO:

"CMANO offers the ability to take over the world. Bomb your work place with B-52's, nuke your ex's house, form your own rebel army and protest using the latest tanks in your favourite political area.
