Lady and Gents,

This looks like it could be a grognard's dream.

I think I'll try their Panzer Campaigns demo here before buying this beast to make sure I like the system.

Cheers,
CB

Meh. The PzC system is 20 years old and is based on a system that came out in '95. Looking for new blood.

I've been playing the PzC games since forever (own just about every title) and have enjoyed them all. These games aren't about graphics/bells/whistles (to say the least) but their historical detail is great. AI is so-so at best, but usually does a good job at defense so this (Downfall) game would be ideal for a human playing against the Japanese AI, I would think. Anyway, glad they are finally making the leap into the Pacific!

Looks interesting....GP

Aye, looks great. Have struggled to engage with the turn-based system in the Tiller games (the Weego system in WitP has spoiled me!), but this seems to be the sort of title that would convince me to jump in with both feet.

Especially so if supporting this leads to more games set in the Pacific theater. As said above, games like this against the AI work best when the computer only really needs to defend. Which would be perfectly suited for Iwo Jima etc scenarios.

That note says they're going to do Coronet next (i.e. the Honshu invasion in March 1946). Good point that it's an old system. That's why I'll try their Mius Front demo. I played a PzC game a long time ago but don't remember it well.

Cheers,
CB

Nice, but PzC AI is weak. The AI "works" best when it has a huge advantage over the human player(Soviets in MInsk'44 or Allies in Normandy'44).

I have the old SPI solitaire game Operation Olympic. Just bought Decision Games Operations Olympic & Cornet in January. Same as the SPI version upgraded a little and added Operation Coronet. John Tillers Campaign Series: Rising Sun has three Downfall scenarios and a dynamic campaign scenario of the Koshiki Retto Islands off Kyushu. And four Okinawa scenarios.
Looks like Japan 1945 will my next game.
Bought a few Solitaire board games to keep cabin fever out of the house this last brutal -35F and very stormy winter.

Operations Olympic & Coronet
Last Battle: Ie Shima 1945 (not really Solitaire)
D-Day at Iwo Jima
D-Day at Peleliu
D-Day at Tarawa

All great solitaire games. The D-Day series is unique, no dice, just event cards. Very tough to win but very enjoyable. Steep learning curve.
Coming any day now - Breakout: Normandy
