A few of my ports with repair shipyards, and which have ships under repair both pierside and in the shipyard, do not have the "manage ships under repair" button appearing at all.

I can move ships from the shipyard to pierside via a roundabout method of first clicking on the shipyard button on the bottom of the base screen, then clicking the "view shipyard usage" button on that screen followed by clicking on the yellow highlighted "Shipyard" for repair location next to each ship. However, I cannot move a ship from pierside to the shipyard via this method.

Why is it that the "manage ships under repair" button is unavailable in some such instances? Could it be because these ships are all ones undergoing upgrade and once they are pulled out of the shipyard there is no need to issue any further commands until they have completed their refits?

have you tried reboot, reload the save file?

Were the ships refitting? I've seen this when I only had ships in for refit. I think there was another button to "show ships under repair {might have been refit}" that allowed me access to them. I think I was able to change their status but it's been awhile since I had this happen.

Can you put another ship with a point or two of Sys and get the "Manage Ships Under Repair" button?

Post screen shots of the base screen please. A picture is worth a thousand words....GP

GP... my connection is too slow for screen shots, sorry.

It seems to be happening at bases with only ships that are refitting (upgrading), not regular repairs. It threw me off because I had given orders for seven APs to upgrade to APAs at Auckland and wanted to take them out of the overloaded shipyard after they started the refit. As soon as I disbanded an ASW TF that had ships needed system repair, the regular "manage ships under repair" button was available.

So, apparently, if you only have ships being refitted (upgraded) in a port the "manage ships under repair" button does not appear - the same as if there are no ships at all being repaired. You can use the "view shipyard usage" button on the shipyard screen to pull ships out of the shipyard to pierside repair, but you cannot use it to go the other direction.

BTW: yes I did try exiting and rebooting to see if that made a difference. It did not.

You can't change ships under refit/upgrade unless say the float damage is red, or something like that....GP

Yea, they are Refitting.

Which can be pain in butt, switching to Pierside because those ships tend to flood Repair Shipyards....

You can take them out of the shipyard and work on them pierside - which is what you want to do to keep your shipyards available for ships needing major repairs.

Most ships under conversion/refit do NOT have float damage as part of the refit, and can be switched immediately to pierside repair.
For those ships that DO have float damage during conversion/refit, that damage usually is repaired first and fairly quickly. Once the float damage is gone the ship can be shifted to pierside conversion. Good example, the British 3900 ton cargo ships that can convert to 1000/2200 capacity xAPs incur 2 points of float damage and go into the SY automatically on conversion. It gets repaired in one turn and the ship can be shifted to pierside mode.

Battle and wear and tear damage can often be repaired concurrently with refit time such that total repair time is not cumulative.

Most do, yes....but when you have dozens of them in one port...it's a click-fest....
