Hi Bill/Hubert
In a PBEM game I went for the "All of France" option, it didn't go well for me.

Two things I noticed and not sure if they are bugs.

1 - French NM shot up to 145% after the government moved to Algeria, making it very difficult to clear out the French units in NA
2 - After finally taking Algeria and the French surrender, the French navy is still in play 3 turns later (They haven't gone Free French) my opponent is surprised at this as well.

Is this WAD or a bug?

1) This could be possible depending on French NM before Paris falls, as it receives a boost to enable it to fight on if the armistice isn't signed.

2) Has France definitely surrendered? The fall of Algiers doesn't guarantee this. If the Allied player can still go to the Purchase screen and potentially buy units for France then it hasn't surrendered.

If it has, the only legitimate way for the French navy to remain in play is as Free French, so if France has definitely surrendered and they aren't Free French then indeed, something would be amiss.

I will check with my opponent if he can still buy French units.

If France and Algiers have fallen, where does the French capitol move to?

Assuming that Bordeaux has also fallen then it won't have one, so it shouldn't then take long for the Axis to force the country to surrender.

Hi Bill

I had taken Paris and Bordeaux, before Algiers, My opponent said he has kept a Battleship, Heavy cruiser, Destroyer and a Sub.

None of them were in port at the time of surrender and are still showing the French roundel.

My opponent confirms that he can purchase French units in Madagascar

Hi Taffjones,

Thanks for the ID number and I took a quick look and it seems ok to me. What it looks like is France surrendered, a few naval units remained on the map as they went Free French and joined the UK, and there remains Madagascar and French Somililand as French minors still on the map which explains why some French minor units can be purchased.

France is surrendered but still active only as a parent of these minors which explains why you still see the French flag in the Purchase screen and so on.

Thanks for the reply, I thought it was unusual for so many French ships to go Free French especially as they were at sea and not in a Allied port when France surrendered.

Another quality game from you both, I'm really enjoying it.

If the Axis don't go for Vichy then French ships have a 40% chance of becoming Free French if France ultimately surrenders... so significantly more than did in real life when the armistice was signed will probably do so.

That's nice to know, I didn't realise that.

Makes going for all of France an even bigger gamble [:D] or in my case a big mistake.
